Its had 2 new drives already. It still tries to eject phantom disks. Its also had a mother board, hinge cover(which has all the volume mute buttons etc), keyboard, touchpad, and I think one other piece I'm forgetting. They've been to the house 7 times to fix it. Now the case won't stay snapped together in one spot because its been taken apart so many times.

Well ya thats the issue. Dell gave us a free "new" laptop. Its a reconditioned one. And its a different model then the one with all the issues. However they will only warranty it for the remainder of the original warranty. So after all the issues with the first one a new dell laptop with a 2 month warranty isn't good.

I have a brother and they suck in like crazy. They do a selfcleaning deal in the middle of the night, and each time it uses ink up. So even when its shut off it's not shut off. I unplug mine now after replacing the cartridges after about 70 pages. If the newer ones have a utility set up make sure yours is set to limit self cleaning. Plus you can only use brother cartridges which are crazy expensive for the little ink that they contain.

Greg thats good to know. Well ours has toner not ink but I will still see what kinda settings it has. Would it print out stuff when doing that cleaning stuff?

Mackster I think you'd do fine with a macbook but they can be spendy. The replacement is an HP thats on sale this week at office max. We listed free shipping on the sale so I can't say for sure how we did but after ebay/paypal fees we are $8 ahead of breaking even.

maybe he toner deal is different. on this on if you insigate the cleaning ccle it does a test print after the cycle. when it runs its self clean it doesn't. Don't know where the ink goes but it not into prints I want.

It will give you a control board when you load the drivers. Go through it with a fine toothed comb and look at all the options.

Buy the cheapest computer you can find that will fill your needs.

I buy the $300 ones and they usually last three or four years. I have had the most expensive ones and they usually last about the same time. If they are still working in a couple years, the machine is so out of date that it needs to be changed anyway.

Well after ebay/paypal fees and shipping her dell laptop cost 17.78 for 10 months of use. And she got to keep office 2007 she bought for it so I'd say we did well. Hope the new owner has better luck with that one then we did with the old one.

Hmmmm........I'm thinking about a new printer.

The first one we had was the $50 Lexmark of maybe 5 years ago.

It finally got where it wasn't doing well.

So, based on good enough results with it, a couple years ago I bought

the latest cheap Lexmark for $39.95. Turns out, far as I'm concerned,

not as good as the first one. Has never printed stuff in black like it

should. Lately comes out more like a brown color. Have tried cleaning

the nozzles and cleaning the cartridge contacts, but no real improvement.

The 3 ink cartridge costs about $35 as I recall.....but even a new one didn't

improve print quality.

A few months ago, I looked at Consumer Reports regarding printers, and

decided to look for one they gave a good rating. Can't now remember

the brand, but it sells for about $300. Did any local store even have

it - Noooo.......even places on the internet didn't seem to carry it.

They had cheaper models in the brand, but not the one supposed to

be so great. Will have to look again, I guess.
