BobT-47P15 Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Been looking since 1973 when I got the car. They are a little hard to find. Anyone know what they are or where they go on a P15 convertible?? (the convert guys will know) Quote
Andydodge Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 On the inside of the door edge, below where the window pops outa the channel...........never seen a real convert in the flesh but thats my guess.........andyd Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I would guess that these are mounter on the frame of the fron windshield and are part of the latch system to hold the roof tight at the front. Just a guess on my part Rich Hartung Quote
Frank M. Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Hi Bob. Ive had several P-15 converts, and only a couple had those. They usually got tossed when the inner door panel was removed. They mount on the top rear of the door and connect the outer and inner window whiskers. Most restored cars Ive seen usually dont have them. They work on Ply. only. Chry. Dodge, and De Soto have one in common. Unless they were filled, the screw holes should still be there. They cover the gap between the inner door moulding and the outer door skin. Lucky you!!! You may never see another set for sale. Some have made them outta solid metal--shaped them and had them plated. If you need any more info on those ,let me know. Someday.Dummy here is gonna take the time to learn how to post pics. Ive noticed us older guys dont pick up on this puter stuff as quickly. Frank M. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Nice score, Bob! Congratulations. Luckily, my car has those parts already. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Report Posted February 3, 2010 Frank has the best explanation. Indeed they go on the top edge of the door, at the rear of the window channel, to "finish it up" you might say. My car was wrecked before I found it and mostly repaired. Those trims were probably taken off and tossed at the time body work was done. Or, maybe even before when the interior was re-done with some lovely red vinyl.....perhaps in the late 1950s or the 60s. These pieces were hand made by a man in or near Auburn, Mass according to Bob Lauzon from whom I got them. They are from stainless rather than chromed metal. I looked in the parts manual and could not come up with a part I thought was them. May be in there however. Now, I still need a chrome top pivot for the left wing window.....it has also been missing all along. Not sure how it mounts, except looks to be pressed in. It looks like this......... Frank.....do you know how these attach???? Quote
Frank M. Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Another tough part to come by, Bob. As Eds pic showed, they are held in by a small nut. Of course, the rubber seal has to be pulled back for installation. A good friend (gone now) , casted some of these in frustration over looking for them. He ran a Machine shop and sent me a couple. His were made of Stainless tho,as the originals were pot metal. They usually got the threaded part twisted off from dirt and whatever buildup. He restored quite a few T&Cs, so whatever the cost--it was worth it. When you get some (I hope),thats a good time to get the frame replated,as they have to be off. Frank M. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 4, 2010 Author Report Posted February 4, 2010 Ed, I can't see any place for a nut to go. The hole is smooth and appers enclosed on all sides. Does not go thru the window frame. That's why I wonder if it was originally pressed in. Quote
