Oil Pressure Gauge--Connection to Block

I had to replace the original 1949 engine on my car with a flathead out of a '53. In the process, I lost track of where the line from the oil pressure gauge threads into the block. I seem to recall that on the 49 it was aft of the distributor somewhere, a bit close to the firewall. On the '53 block that I'm using, it looks like the threaded hole is further forward, about halfway between the distributor and the front of the engine. I believe I've got everything in the right place but I just wanted to check and make sure. There is an available hole in that location (the front third of the engine). Does it make any difference if that is where I thread the line in?

You can connect the line to any of the tapped holes on the side. I think there are four. They all tap into the oil pressure gallery. Mine is connected to the rearmost hole. They are all 1/8" pipe thread.

Any of those passages will work. It does seem there should be one toward the rear. There is usually one behind the line to the oil filter. Is it possible the sender for an electric style gauge is in the place for the mechanical???

Joe I think you'd want to use one further back just for the sake of less clutter under the hood. I've always seen the rearmost one used for the gauge and then the second rearmost ones for the oil filter. The starter is in the way to really see where it goes but the line that loops under my starter is the oil gauge. Now why I looped it under instead of along the block is beyond me :D

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been out to look at the engine in a while but to the best of my recollection, there is no hole back there toward the rear. I'll have to check again. It's a good point about keeping the clutter under the hood to a minimum.

Here's a couple of pics of mine... I'm using the stock pipe fitting, hard line, and rubber connector that came from the factory. This connects to the block at the rear end of the oil galley, close to the bell housing.

These pics were taken before I installed the starter.

You can just barely see the brass pipe fitting and hard line at the top of this pic. The larger rubber lines connected farther forward near the distributor are my remote oil filter.

I have a brass connection block (similar to Young Ed's top single brass connection) - but it has two outlets. One outlet has a pin size hole and the other outlet in the brass connection block has a larger hole. Both take normal size fittings. Will the outlet with the smaller pin size opening be the one that runs up to the gauge? The larger opening runs to the inlet of the oil filter canister? Or should they be the other way around?

The pinhole one should be the gauge and the more open one the filter.

Thanks Ed. Somewhere along the line before I took possession of my truck, these lines were swapped around hence my question. It makes sense to have the pin hole opening going to the gauge so it is now returned that way.
