greg g Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Some interesting usage of surplus equipment. Swiped from the Studebaker board. He says he gets some strange looks from his neighbors. Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Thats a damn good idea! makes moving it around real easy. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I got two of them pallet forks laying around with bad pumps..novel idea..but I also have plans for a possible pump mod down the line also.. Quote
greg g Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 He mentioned that he got his and another one for the cost of hauling them away. Apparently the pump seals start to leak and they won't lift the 7k lbs anymore without spurting oil out. Say's it not so much a problem with less than 1k on them, and it's cheaper for the places to buy a new one from China than repair the old ones. So apparently all you gotta do is ask around at stores and warehouses. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 that is where I picked mine up from...actually I think by looking, at least at the one unit it can be replaced with a bottlejack..granted I will not have fingertip control at the handle but at least will function. Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I have worked on these pallet movers before. If its not pumping, or its spurting oil, then generaly the O-ring on the pump plunger needs replacing. If your going to repair one its only a couple of dollars in O-rings and a seal (if the main ram has one). They can be fidley, and at times frustrating, but no worse than rebuilding your car. Depending on type I can do one in about 4 to 6 hours if the parts are in stock. (but then I have done several now). Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 rebuilding the pump would requie being able to identify the pump in question..the two I have are not pictured on the pallet jack pump identification chart..which, is probably why the company did not chose to repair said item and why when asked they told me to take them with me...
