deadbodyman Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Hey guy's, I was wondering if anybody was interested in any sheetmetal for 46-48 plymouths ...I've been into body and paint work for 35 yrs and got into metal shaping two years ago.I have a biz coupe that Ive made a lot of stuff for, rockers ,floors, roll pans,1/4 bottoms ,door bottoms etc...I have a parts car that still had the fillers between the bumpers that I was going to sell but they were to rusted out so I got to thinking they can be made pretty easily with my tipping wheel but I have no need for a set...If anybody would like a set or any other parts made I might be able to help you out...since its mostly for fun The parts will be cheap enough and I'll try making anything.let me know and I'll give it a shot.since I have two biz coupes thats what I'm limited to,without old parts to copy.I got some pics of what I've done to my car,if anybody's interested....Mike Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) very interesting offer..I see the State of Georgia, want to narrow that a tad? Did some research...one of your posts says Augusta area... Edited December 16, 2009 by Tim Adams Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Mike, Don't need anything right now, but that sounds like a good idea. Could turn out to be a nice little side venture for you. Actually, that's how Gil got started making body parts out in Iowa. He had a P15 convertible to restore. Of course it needed a lot of things like floor pans, rockers, etc., so he had to make patterns for the convertible. Then afterward, he started making and selling the parts to everyone. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 With the title of this thread and the name of the poster, I thought someone had found the wrong forum. The Jeffery Dahmer fan club or Dr. Frankenstein.com, or something. Glad to see we're just talking about car parts here. Whew! All kidding aside, thanks for the offer, Mike. Might be in the market for front and rear gravel guards but I gotta check. Quote
P15Mike Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Mike , Sounds like like your starting into a very nice venture there . I'm not currently in the market for any sheet metal but if you decide to jump into the rubber market i could use a front floor mat and trunk mat ... Good luck ! Mike Quote
Bingster Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 I've got a bad trunk area in my '47 Desoto. The spare tire well is badly rusted. You know, a lot of spare tire wells are rusted out. That would be a good part to make. I wonder what models might have the same well pattern in the '46-'48 years? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 I believe it was once stated that a boat trailer fender will make a fairly decent spare tire well, or at least the curved bottom portion of it. Quote
deadbodyman Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 I am in augusta, Ga. I'm mostly doing this to gain experiance plus having body and paint experiance this is the next step in my evolution.Being from the east coast I got the basics of metal forming from patch panels for rusted out areas at the begining of my career. after going out to get parts off my other car for somebody and seeing they were so badly rusted they were worthless but enough of them were left to make some good patterns.the fillers between the body and the bumpers are always rotted where they bolt to the fenders It seems a shame to throw them out but I just have no use for them so no reason to make a set. I'm not doing this to make a living or profit its for my own enjoyment and to help get more of these plymouths out on the road.the last show I went to only had one 47 ply 4dr thats it...I was very disapointed. another piece that might be useful would be a patch panel for the fender bottom where the filler bolts to and the center section that the grill bolts to....Also there's a couple other guys like me in augusta that are metal forming newbies it gives us a chance to get together and build stuff...BTW; I'm not a mortition or a serial killer I just bring old, dead cars back to life ,someone called me a deadbody man and it stuck like glue a few years ago when I started my 48 ply biz coupe.Have a great day gentlemen. deadbodyman Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 On that Desoto, can you get a pic? if you can trace the top where its welded to the floor and send it to me with some measurements length width and depth,it would be a good challenge. outbackcreations@aol.com Quote
Tim Keith Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I have a '46 P15 business coupe with a rusty trunk lid. I need at least the lower 12 inches. The rest of this car isn't too bad. Quote
greg g Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Another possibility you might look into is Studebaker truck stuff. Door patches, bottom fenders pieces, cab corners. Upper fenter to cowl patch. Studebaker front fenders are getting hard to find and there is no fiberglass replacement. There are a couple fellows makinf stuff one very expensive and the other out of thine stuff. Quote

There are a couple fellows makinf stuff one very expensive and the other out of thine stuff. That would be tuff I have no idea what they look like and nothing to copy from. I would need the original fender in front of me..then it would be no problem....un less you could make a paper templete ,it would have to be exact....they can be made with reinforced packing tape too just stick several layers on and trim everything off with a razor , untape and stick it to some paper then send it to me... mochevy69 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 I would be interested in the lower 8 inches of the outer door skin on each door. I have a 48 Dodge D24 Bus. Cpe. It's a little different than the Plymouth P15. The fender bulge extends down the door a short distance. Let me know if it's doable? Larry Quote
deadbodyman Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 Sorry,...I would really need The door for that one.The plymouth doors were pretty tricky when I made them, but that would be a challenge even with the door.Although,I do have a buddy down the road that has a d-24 .I'll go over and see what hes got for copying and get back to you...BTW ,thats a NICE dang car.
