David Maxwell Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 I love old homes and yours is a true classic! As for the cars... I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Desoto on the left, Merc in the middle and I can't even guess as to the one on the right. This picture is dated 1951 and is of this old house I bought in 1995..was found in a old book left behind..name the cars... Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 One on the right kinda looks like a '42 Chebby Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 more pics..from the front of my old house dated 1951 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 In the group of 6 photos, the one in the top photos looks like a Lincoln, with the rectahgular tailights. The other car looks like a Packard or Clipper, pre-1948 restyle. The remaining car looks like an early 50's Mopar. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 This picture is dated 1951 and is of this old house I bought in 1995..was found in a old book left behind..name the cars... Fromn the left aunt Bertha, cousin Nellie, neighbor Gracie, aunt Agnus, grandma Ethel, and grandpaw Wilber:rolleyes: Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 that is right Don except that is Granpa Wilferd, everyone always confused his name with Wliber who happened to be the pet pig... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 in reference to my first picture of the center car (butt shot only) I am of mind that this car could very well be an early 444/445 series Volvo...the quick slope of the rear, the very flat brake light panel and no rear vent and position of chrome is the driving force..also keep in mind that the owner of my house was a local doctor and some of their fiends may well be like wise..I looked for the couple with matching sweaters as an additional hint that it could very well be a Volvo but came up empty handed.. BobT-47P15 Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Tim.....were there Volvos in 1951? I don't know when they became available. I want to say the rear end looks like Lincoln Zephyr of late 40s. Front car either a 1950 Dodge or Plymouth. Rear one.......might be another 50s mopar.....can't see it very well. Quote
T120 Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 The car in the center of the first photo may be a 1942 Lincoln Zephyr Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 ok..will look up a picture of the Zephyr...I really don't know what it is and yes the Volvo body style wa around since about 48.....as to if available in the US..cannot answer..but as how everthing else seemed to get imported whay not..anyway..it was the only car that "popped" into my mind body style wise...its the flat light panel in the rear that sold me on the Volvo Quote
Normspeed Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 In the first pic it really does look like a Volvo. But the ones I've seen are more rounded near the bumper and shorter behind the fender opening. In the second pic it seems way too big to be a Volvo. More like a Lincoln or something. Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I still think the car at the top is a Packard or Clipper. The photos in my "car encyclopedia"book are small and do not show each view of each permutation, but the rear quareters in the photo look like those of a 47 clipper in my book. Quote
