55 Fargo Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Anybody use the Roberts or Burnbaums door weatherstrip on a Coupe, if so how were they? Did they have the thicker rubber with the metal backing for the door bottom? I wan to order a pair for my car, but want to know what some of you guys used. The other short piece that goes on the bottom front, the one that attaches to A pillar, those suckers are expensive, mine are shot, so are my parts cars too.......Thanx Fred Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Fred I would bypass those two choices and go straight to Steele Rubber, you will get brand new strips and not have to take a chance with nos or generic replacements. Quote

Frankie, I know Steel Rubber has superior products, but I have used Roberts products with great success, these are not generic weatherstripping, or NOS, they may have the generic type too. What I am trying to find out is this, who has used Roberts or Bernbaums door weatherstrip on coupes, and how were they?.....Fred Quote
steveplym Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 I used Roberts rubber on my doors Fred. Basically just glued the seals on the doors. Didn't use the metal backing as they didn't come with it. Just a roll of the seals. Seals off my doors just fine and was relatively cheap. Just make sure you use the black 3M weatherstrip adhesive. The yellow doesn't work as well. Quote

I love Steele Rubber. I just ordered some rubber parts for my coupe that is being repainted. I also got talked into pulling the windows on the coupe which I wasn't going to do. I will order the windshield and rear window gaskets from Steele also. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 fred, I bough a set from Roberts; no metal back or special molded bottom part. Just ft measure stock. Have to try to mend the original molded corners. If I would do it now I would probably try Steele. Lol. Pekka Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 roberts Okay Mike, yes Roberts are fine, but what can you tell me about there door weatherstripping. Have you installed there door weatherstripping on your car?.......Fred Quote

michael.warshaw Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 no i havent but roberts sells top notch items, and i trust them. Quote
steveplym Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Just a side note Fred. You don't have your doors off, but I tried to put it on with the doors off. That worked a lot better until I went to fit the doors onto the car. That made fitting it a bit tough. It was a little bit harder to get it on with the doors on the car, but it ended up being easier to get the doors installed and fitted. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Actually, things like hood bumper rubber, door and trunk seals, you can buy almost anywhere new. You just need to match up the shape of the old to the new. Even JC Whitney has the door and trunk rubber seal by the foot, or roll. Of course, there's always places like Soft Seal, etc. you can also get it from. Quote
David Maxwell Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I once looked at Steele.com for my door rubber, but realized it was the same as what Pep Boys (now out of business) was selling for around 25 bucks a roll so I went with theirs. It's now over six years old and like new. I love Steel Rubber's products and have used them for almost everything on my car, but this is one place I recommend using JC Whitney or Kanter or your local Auto Parts store if there are any of those out there that still carry it. As for the pattern, no one carries anything like the original which was very unique and even had steel clips molded into the rubber. Just the same, the pattern that Steele shows on their site works well and is carried by most other suppliers. Good luck! Thanx David, kinda of figured this by looking at the pics on the websites for Steele, Roberts, Bernbaums etc. I need some items that only Steele produce, like the lower A pillar door weatherstrip, but ther pricey, also need park light lense gaskets, brake lamp pad, these have to come from Steele, as the others don't make it to the best of my knowledge.....Fred Quote
daddyo23 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Fred, I got mine from Roberts and it seems to be doing the job. Went on fairly easy with the doors on and it seals well. I was happy with what I got for the price. My .02 Wayne P. Quote

aero3113 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 My passenger door never shut right and it always looked like it was open when shut also had to slam it to get it to shut. When I first got my 50 Plymouth there was no weather stripping on the driver side but there was on the passenger side. No matter how much I adjusted the passenger door it would not shut right. Thanks to this post (got me thinking), I just decided to go to the garage and remove the weather stripping on the passenger door. Now it shuts and lines up perfect . I guess the previous owner had to thick of a seal on for it to close right. Now I have to get the right seals for both doors. Quote
Dodgefran Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 What ever happened to www.restorationspecialties.com ? I used them for the wetherstriping on my 36 Dodge D2 a few years ago. It is a good quality product. Quote

Fit was perfect as well. I wouldn't hesitate buying from there if Steele isn't in your budget. Quote
aero3113 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Does anyone have a picture of a cross section of weather stripping that would fit on a 50 Plymouth. Would like to see what shape it is supposed to be. Quote
paulbone Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Got my door rubbers for my 39 P7, 47 D24 and 57 Lancer from Barnbaum, all came as cut to measure roll with no metal backing supplied. The profile was good and fitted just great, all has to be glued on as well. I've used Steele in the past, and are happy with both suppliers. Now any one know who does the rubber on stainless door sill/running boards for a D24 coupe? Quote
