BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 On the 49 P15 coupe, someone several years ago woodgrained the back side of the rear view mirror --- with contact paper. Glad they didn't try to do the entire dash. And, they evidently wanted to make the dome light dimmer or give it a tannish tone......since they painted the inside of the lense. I'm sure you guys have other goodies to share on this topic. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 (edited) That headlight knob might be from a 59 Chevy....... And, a wrong ammeter gauge, perhaps from a newer old Mopar..... The gas guage is wrong, too. It should have hash marks, with the "1/2" below that line. Edited July 7, 2009 by BobT-47P15 Quote
adam_knox Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Does that radio say "Motorola?" So weird to see early products from companies that have been around for awhile! Quote
Young Ed Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Bob those are 51 plymouth gauges. Interesting to see that they fit. I wonder how much modifications someone did to get those in there? If they fit easily that would answer someones question a couple weeks ago about switching to a 1wire gas gauge setup. Quote
hkestes41 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Some previous owner of my car must have been a Halloween fan as the dash and window surrounds of my Black coupe were painted bright Orange. And they did a mighty fine job of painting the engine. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/1942dodge/ABeautifulcar.jpg[/img Yike what more can I say but this had to be run by one more time. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Norm what about what we just discovered on Dads 69 sport fury. The back up lights didnt work so we were checking that out. Dad was gonna check the fuse and the bulbs. I said wait they must have taken the bumper off to paint the car maybe they aren't plugged in. Well it turns out that they must have removed the bumper, removed the lights, and then discovered you can't install the buckets with the bumper on. So instead of removing the bumper again they sawed off the back of the buckets which included the bulb holder socket etc and just installed an empty housing with a lense back into the bumper. I think we all gotta agree that was the wrong way to do it. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 I just thought it would be fun and interesting to talk about what previous owners have done to some of these cars. It's kind of amazing what they think of to do. Like Norm said, they did it their way. Sometimes it's rather sad what they did, sometimes funny....... Or, maybe some of us have invented our own "fix" for a certain problem. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 The brown coupe seems to have it's share of oddities. Which is sorta amusing. Along the way they did some good things, like having the interior reupholstered. But other things were a bit jake-y. Like the Ford blue paint job of the entire engine and compartment....yuk. I had to chuckle when I spotted the hold-down for the spare tire. But, it fits and works. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Bob here's the list I mentioned in another thread of what was done to my 51 coupe. Porsche backup lights, lucas tri bar headlights, JCW sidemarker lights, some kinda extra brake and turn signal lights, aftermarket window squirters, extra interior lights that come on with the switch you noticed, a homemade burglar alarm that is operated with a key next to the trunk, capacative discharge ignition, bosch fog lights, hood latch tab removed and cable operation added, manual choke, um I think thats about it. Also noticed an aftermarket day night mirror the other day. Oh and the best part OD from a 52 Quote
TodFitch Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Does that radio say "Motorola?" So weird to see early products from companies that have been around for awhile! A bit OT but what the heck. Many years ago I had a set of fog lights on my 1933 that were manufactured by TrippLite. Which is, apparently where the company got its name making driving and fog lights for cars. Anyway, about 10 years ago I had a reason to call Tripplite about some of their current products (they make power equipment for computer rooms). I was asked where I had first heard of their company and I answered that I had a set of Tripplites on my antique car. There was a stunned silence at the other end of the line. The sales person had no clue that the company once made automotive "trip lights". Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Adam......yes, that's a Motorola radio. They made aftermarket radios for many cars back then.... '49 Dodge......that car was discovered by someone on the HAMB a while back. Don't recall where it is. Not sure if someone bought it, or if anything is being done with it. As you can probably tell, it's a Chevy. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 I have no gripes about mods done to the 51. Those were done in the 60s when the car was an every day driver and just another car. Now the mods done to the 69 were done about 2 years ago and as far as I'm concerned were only done out of complete laziness. He didn't want to remove the back bumper a second time so he destroyed the backup lights. Quote
