gnoub1948 Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Lee: No problem. I did not bring the book to work so I will have to do that tonight. Gary Quote
TodFitch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Actually Don, I think this was the first year of the shock as we know it. I found this neat little video on youtube, and they talk about the “new” airplane type shocks.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPqfC5SFZfI I was going to point out that video at an alternate location on archive.org. You are both right: It was the first year of the "airplane type" shocks. But the original airplane shocks could be serviced the details are in the factory service manual. But I'd hazard a guess that the original shocks have long since been replaced by throwaway aftermarket shocks. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Who knows why Don. They also went from IFS back to the straight axle in 35. The switch from IFS in 1934 to a "conventional" axle in 1935 has been attributed to cutting costs. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Well Gary, since you offered,I think I mentioned I have a rear axle seal leaking into the brake drum. Any chance you could look up the inner and outer seal numbers? I know the inner seal is the problem. Thanks, Lee- I would like to update my information located at http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group3#3-F for part number 891437 (Axle Drive Shaft Bearing Oil Seal and Gasket Package) used on P1 through P14 so if you have a cross reference for that please post it. Actually, if you have the appropriate parts book, too much time on your hands and a bizarre kind of compulsion, I could use help with adding to, correcting and otherwise maintaining the cross references in my on-line database. So if you would like to help please PM me. Quote
Young Ed Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Tod Dad has an all inclusive 46-54 parts book. Would that be of help? Quote
TodFitch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Tod Dad has an all inclusive 46-54 parts book. Would that be of help? I guess it would. I have, so far, limited my range from 1928 to 1949 as that covers the cars I am most interested in. I am missing parts books for the late 1934 and the 1935 models. I guess I should buy reprints for those. For 1937-49 I am using the PDFs of the 36-89 master parts book that Chet posted on his web site a while back. Quote
1949P17BC Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Lee, they all missed the photo shoot comment! Their wives have nothing to fear Quote
steveplym Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I could be so lucky! I think that was one of those "once-in-a-lifetime" things. That's what I was wondering. Wondered if you have to take a different car with you every year for another chance at a photo shoot. Quote
gnoub1948 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Lee: Sorry for the late reply, I was in the shop playing with rust.
