Dodgeb4ya Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Has anyone bought the 1948-53 rear window rubber from Steele rubber products? In the catalog they list one part# and no picture. Don't know if it is just the center rear glass rubber or all 3 pieces which I doubt. Is the steele center glass rubber one moulded piece and exactly as the original with good fit up? Current Steele price is about a $135.00 for part #40-0406-81. I'm in need of a real good soft center rear glass weatherstrip for my 52 regular cab pickup. Am in the process of fabbing up a new headliner and need the center glass rubber rubber. I don't trust Roberts or Handy Andy! Bob Quote
Jim Shepard Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I used Steele on my B2B and am quite happy wtih the reselts. The rubber is one molded piece. Very good quality. However, for whatever reason, the wing vent rubber did not fit. I sent them back and used stuff from Roberts, which fit perfectly. Go figure... Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I got mine from Steele too. As I recall they do have two different part #'s for the rear window rubbers. One for the rear window and a different number for the corners. It is good stuff and the ends are vulcanized to make them one piece. Oh, my vent window rubber was a tight fit, but it did fit. Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Does anyone have the Steele part number for the rear corner windows? Can't seem to find it in their catalog either. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I found this number for the rear window: 40-0406-81 $135.10/ea. and here are their installation instructions for that: https://secure.steelerubber.com/pdf/type004.pdf Here is the info for the corner windows: Weatherstrip, rear side windows. Replaces #1096609 for all Dodge trucks. 40-0420-77 $ 127.40/pr. This is info from their website Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I don't have my Steele catalog handy, but on their web site I found "Fixed Quarter Window Channel" for Dodge trucks (Replaces part # 1096609, which matches my parts manual) is Steele's #40-0420-77. and the rear center glass molding is #40-0406-81 Merle Looks like I'm a little slow today. Bob beat me to the answer. Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Thanks guys but .....OUCH....OUCH.....OUCH ! That's $262 just for the rear windows. My old rubber is looking better to me now. Quote
48Dodger Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Thanks guys but .....OUCH....OUCH.....OUCH ! That's $262 just for the rear windows. My old rubber is looking better to me now. No kiddin', a little spit shine and some shoe polish, and I'll be fine......lol:D 48D Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I'm sure we've been over this before but has anyone used Roberts for the rear window rubber? $80 for the set sure fits in my budget better than $262. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 Thanks guys but .....OUCH....OUCH.....OUCH ! That's $262 just for the rear windows. My old rubber is looking better to me now. Well after reading that the rubber fits/looks good ( my old rubber was smoorth and shiny but hard as concrete) and that my $$$ wont go to Roberts and Andy I just sent $149.00 to Steele! Thats just for the center rubber and shipping to Washington State! Whew-that ought to be enough to help out the economy! Bob Quote
David A. Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I hate to pay all that extra money myself, but in past projects I have used rubber window seals from other suppliers because they were cheaper, and it wasn't no time before they started cracking - only a couple years, and my vehicles are kept inside most of the time. I haven't had that problem with Steel's products. At least not yet... David A. Quote

I've had this 1952 Dodge P/U since 1972 and want this rear rubber to last at least anther 20 years! Bob Quote
