BobT-47P15 Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Now, here's a cover you won't see very often. They were an aftermarket item back in the late 50s or 60s. Came in two or three wheel sizes. Also came in a 4 bar version. I would like to find either one more good one, for a pair, or 3 more good ones for a set. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 No matter what they call them, they usually rust fairly quickly, on bothsides. I had a set several years ago of this type, and a little sticker on the back said they were made at the Wing Fat Hupcap Factory....I think in Taiwan. If a person will clean and wax these caps kinda regularly, the finish will hold up longer. If you let them set dirty for long periods, it seems to do a number on them. Just my observation from having had several over the years. I bought my current set used, on ebay, and they had already begun getting some places on them. Yes, I agree they will rust, but not that fast. I only wash my coupe about once a year and have never polished the hubcaps since I bought them. They have been on the coupe since about Spring of 04 and they have no rust yet. I did buy mine new though. Yours must have been pretty old when you bought them. Here's a picture I took at the Goodguys show in 04 with the hubcaps on the coupe then. They still look like new today. Quote

Bob, had to be about 8 years or so, but I found a complete set of those hubcaps in excellent shape at a swap meet. The seller said they were Buick caps, but who knows. I liked them too, but didn't like the price. He wanted 300 bucks for the set, so I didn't buy them. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 A few weeks ago I changed to 39/40 Plymouth caps. I love the small round center logo. It's nice to be able to enjoy a bit of individuality especially as it's so easy to swap back to original caps at any time. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 A few weeks ago I changed to 39/40 Plymouth caps. I love the small round center logo. Smart dressed set of wheels, indeed! The older hub caps and beauty rings go very well along with the smart trim on the fender skirts. Also the mint preserved pin stripes on RollieJoe's '51 Cambridge caught my eye. It must be factory original paint job on your wheels? - Congratulations! Quote
47heaven Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Mine are set up this way, as well. Not sure if this was an original option for '47, but nonetheless it looks good. Quote

BloodyKnuckles Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 All the cars and wheels posted here are handsome, but B.K.'s '51 is one cool machine. The hub caps with c/bullets, big rear bumper guards and the long tail pipes are really classic combo. Top chop job looks mighty fine!Where did you got the bumper guards? Thanks alot!! The bumper guards are actually '56 DeSoto front parking light buckets. All I did was add a red lens behind the clear lens and from what I've been told they are very well lit even in the daytime. Thanks again for the kind words. BloodyKnuckles Quote
