Shifticus Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Hi all, It's been a while since I last cruised by these boards, so I thought I'd come back with some visual stimulation for everyone. I did a much needed lubing of the chassis, replaced the old cracked muffler with the longest cherry bomb the local Pep boys had on the shelf, and gave the paint and chrome a good rub down. Here are the pics... And onto the videos. You can really only hear the exhaust in the first clip... Quote
eric wissing Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Looking and sounding good. I really like this model. Eric Quote
Frank Elder Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Nice...it's beggin' for a two tone paint scheme though. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Car and girlfriend look good. I like that cherry bomb sound. Did she almost kill it in the first video after the near miss? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I don't know about the two tone paint on this car. It's a plain-jane business coupe to begin with. Sounds nice, by the way. Looks good. Glad to see you back. Quote
Shifticus Posted April 2, 2009 Author Report Posted April 2, 2009 Thank you all for the kind words. Considered painting the roof tan as the paint has significantly deteriorated there. It would be as they came in '53: above the drip rails. I've decided against it though, and I'll just keep the car as is, waxed, and out of the sun as much as possible. Yep, she screwed up! We were practicing her stick driving, and that was her first "solo." It's something we both enjoy-me teaching her that is-but it's firm that she won't be driving it unless we're in an emergency type situation. She loves the car, but we've got our sights on a 60-63 falcon for her to have as her own... they're cheap, plentiful, and it's no tragedy if she bumps it up a little bit! Quote
Frank Elder Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I hadda try:D It really does look nice the way it is:) Quote
RobertKB Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 The car looks great and I love '53 Plymouths as I have one also. I really respect your decision to keep the original paint as well. The paint on mine is original too. As the saying goes, "You can restore a car any number of times but it is onlyoriginal once." Quote
Young Ed Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 She loves the car, but we've got our sights on a 60-63 falcon for her to have as her own... they're cheap, plentiful, and it's no tragedy if she bumps it up a little bit! Do yourself a HUGE favor and stay away from the 4spd ones! This one is a 6cyl 4spd. Had aftermarket hurst shift linkage that still had issues. It liked to get you stuck in first and reverse at the same time. Everything I've heard says the factory ford linkage was even worse. Now when I was little Dad had this Falcon. Its now up to about 32K miles. Has had 1 repaint that Dad had done. The little old lady he got it from had smashed the front fenders twice. Quote
blueskies Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Ahhhh... the only other 50's brown Plymouth on the road... Good to see it in action. Sounds great. Pete Quote
