1949 p-15 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I need to replace both sides of my windshield. Has anyone tried one of the one piece Windshields that are made for P-15's. I have seen them at swap meets for $650.00. Now there is a guy that has them on E-Bay for $340 + shipping. I haven't seen any of these any of these on a Car and would like to know how well they fit before spending this much money. I also need to replace the Driver and passenger side glass. Quote
steveplym Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Welcome to the forum. I haven't seen the one piece windshields, but it would make an improvement. Only question I would have is if you would need to replace the rear view mirror as the center divider bar would not be needed anymore. Quote
steveplym Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 This car has a one piece windshield. It looks pretty good. Quote
steveplym Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Here's another one, but note that the tops are chopped. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I personally think it takes from the look of a car...less so on a custom..but on a stocker..the divider highlights the looks and makes the era the car represents come alive Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Looks like in the pink car, the rearview mirror is mounted above the wind shield. No divider does take away from the period look. The original windshields are just flat glass - any good shop should be able to make them if they have a pattern. A guy from one of our local shops told me a while back they finally threw out some old glass patterns they had kept for years......since they don't get many calls for that type. So you probably need your old glass for a guide nowadays. Quote
cwcars88 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I think you will find all of these pictures are flat glass V- Butt windshields as you can see the seam line down the center. If you go to www.streetrodhq.com you will see on there home page a car with v-butt and a truck with one piece bent glass. The difference is very noticeable. Quote
greg g Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 The windshields are flat glass, and are mirror image, so if you have one you have apattern for both, any competent glass shop should be able to cut new ones for a lot less than 300 bucks but if a one piece is what you want go for it. Quote
Captain Neon Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 No matter which way you go, realise that the new gasket is not cheap. Steele is quoting them at $131. Quote
moparjack44 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 My DeSoto is a custom, but I kept the original 2 piece winshield. I like the look. Jackie Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I think there is a one piece windshield on ebay currently....seems like the price is three hundred something. Quote
knighthawk Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 those pictures are of the the two piece glass that are butted together and glued, and that has to be done right, or it will; not look very good. They do sell a real one piece glass that is curved in the center, but then the windshield opening (and roof line ) has to be re-done to match the curve of bend in the glass. ON my chopped '48 I chose to keep the divider bar, for the look, am getting new glass cut today for about $45 each. Quote
cwcars88 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 www.onepiececurved.com , jefferishotrod@juno.com , just gave my a guote of $595.00 for a one piece windshield for my p-15, it is bend the same as the sheet metal you do not have to do any body work. Quote
1949 p-15 Posted April 3, 2009 Author Report Posted April 3, 2009 Now I am thinking that I will stick with the original 2 piece style. How hard are these Windshields to change? I think that I have read somewhere on this site that the Windshield is removed from inside the Car? A local glass shop quoted me a price of $150.00 per side installed or I can get them for about $40.00 each and install myself. Quote
