steveplym Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I'm completing the last list of parts I'll need for the 12V conversion. I have a aftermarket turn signal switch with a 3 terminal 6 volt flasher. I am assuming I will need to replace this as well? I've looked several places and I was wondering where I can find a 12V version of this flasher? Did the newer mopars, say '56 and newer have the 12V version on them? Thanks in advance for any info. 55 Fargo Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Steve you may have to just go with a 2 terminal flasher, and wire it according to it. This may require some wiring changes. The 12 volt systems from 56 onwards, may have been wired differently as compared to the 6 volt signal set-up of then 40s and early 50s. I will ask a guys who has done the conversion and get back to you. There are a number of guys on here who have done the 12 volt conversion that may chime in on this ??? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Have you asked your local auto store for a 12 V flasher unit? They likely would have one. Then you can see how many terminals on it. Quote
steveplym Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 I found this one on Ebay. States will fit Chrysler, Dodge, Desoto, and Plymouth '55-'56. Looks like the one I have in the car now. It's cheap enough, may buy it and see how it works. Quote

I did see 3 prong 12 volt flashers at a parts store about an hour ago, so there out there. You would have to wire in the the female connector(s) for it though........Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I don't see why you couldn't use 3 spade connectors if you didn't have the proper connector. I think I was able to buy the proper connector at napa when I got my 6v flashers though. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Looks like from the pics that each terminal on the flasher has a set screw to connect the wires. That system works just fine on mine. What other connector would you need?? Those flashers often come with a clip to attach them to some item under the dash. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Bob mine has a plastic plug with the 3 wires in it. So no getting the wires in wrong when replacing the flasher Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 the third wire is for lighting the indicator when the trun signal lamp is in the open (heated) position Quote

Yeah mine has the 3 screw terminals and I was hoping to find something like that as I would have to use the spade connectors as Ed said if I used a typical 3 prong flasher. In town here we only have an O'reillys and an Autozone so it can be tough to explain to some of these guys at the stores what I need. If I don't know what application it is for they sometimes have trouble looking it up. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 NAPA part #NF 550 is a three terminal, 12v thermal flasher for less than $5. Quote
