rearview Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 That chop looks real good... making me want to hack my 52. Boy, would Michelle kill me. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Geez, Knighthawk........you could have made a 4 door hardtop out of it while you were at it. That would even be more unique. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 2, 2007 Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 actualy did think about, figured the windows would be too much work ! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 You are most likely right......... Quote
Ryan Robbins Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Wow, you made fast work of that. It wasn't too long ago you asked about chopping a 4 door, and now its chopped. Nice work looks great so far. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 In the process of putting the interior or double wall of the roof back together, I failed to take note of where the roof bows go. I would like the location or measurements of the last two ( rear ) roof bow holes , center to center measurements, on the " 48 Dodge 4 door..... thanks. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 In the process of putting the interior or double wall of the roof back together, I failed to take note of where the roof bows go. I would like the location or measurements of the last two ( rear ) roof bow holes , center to center measurements, on the " 48 Dodge 4 door..... thanks. When I removed the headliner bows on my 48 Plymouth coupe I marked each one when I took them out. While cleaning them up to paint them, I found numbers on the ends. Those numbers were the same as the order I took them out of the car. They are hard to see unless you remove the paint. They are stamped into the metal. #1 goes in front, then just follow the number sequence with the highest number at the rear of the roof. Check to see if you can find those numbers. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 thanks but , what I really need to know is where the holes are for the bows . In the process of chopping the roof, the rear quarter window and opening has to be made smaller, resulting in cutting and repositioning the window opening. In doing so , I lost the location of the mounting holes for the roof bows . Quote
james curl Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 I am amazed by the talent of the members of this fourm, nothing seems to deter them once they make up their mind to do something. Great looking chop job, the rear window looks good. Quote
M. Cross Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Wow! That chop job makes your car look JUST like my son-in-laws 48 Chevy Fleetliner that's slowly sinking into the yard behind my garage. Regards! Mark Quote
knighthawk Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 thanks for the complements guys! I know it dosen't sit well with some of the Mo Par purists, seeing it cut, but if you recall , it was only a shell to begin with. The most time consuming thing so far has been modifing or down sizing the windows and trim to fit the smaller openings. I got a lot of things in mind to try on this project, but seems as thou other projects keep popping up ! Quote
Phil Martin Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 A guy in our area chopped a 50 merc and made a 4 door hardtop, it really looks good. Also has a 50 merc 4 dr sedan chopped and a 53 ply 4 door. Runs 460 Fords in all of them, daily drivers. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 Where can I get the rubber seals for the rear quarter windows for my '48 Dodge 4door ? Also can you tell me if itis a D 24 or what ? Steele wanted $169,( too expensive anyway ! ) but needed to know what model.. What parts company do you guys use ? Quote
Joel Torres Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 i would not mind doing that to my spare 47 i took the liberty of cutting your springs and lowering her Quote
knighthawk Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 O K , guys, queastion : I just put the dash back in place, to figure out the steering and pedal stuff, I notice there is a kinda cut out area in the grill , to the left of the speaker , just opposite the ash tray .. Some other kinds of cars had an optional heater control panel here, is that what this would be for ??? Quote
Brad Lustig Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 I quit following this thread early on, but just read back through it. Wow! You did a great job with keeping the lines looking good with your chop. Hard to do! Quote
Brad Lustig Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 That's the place for the radio. There are plates that go in that spot, too. I have the delete plate on mine. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Guess you could put a radio there..but in reality the forward thinkers at Chrysler knew someday AC ducts would go there...(my mock up dash) I hated the fact that the AC install would not allow the insertion of the factory radio..just not quite enough room under the dash for everything. Quote
knighthawk Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 I'm also missing the high beam indicator. Is that available ? Again also, I noticed a smaal switch, with vacumn line ports, under the left side of the dash. Would this be for the washers ? I see that it has the nozzles up on top . What kind of pump did they use ? Quote
Brad Lustig Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 I can't tell you what that switch is for, but it's not the windshield washers. That's a knob on the top center of the dash. And the D24's had electric motor washers. Actually, it may be for a washer jet... Is that what you're talking about? Quote
knighthawk Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 the switch I'm referring to is ,is under the dash , on the left side, at the very bottom. It's just like a starter push button, only it has 2 ports on it , like would be for 1/8 '' ( or smaller )vacumn lines. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 I believe you have found a washer pump..sounds very much like one I hve here at the house and I KNOW it is a washer pump. Quote
knighthawk Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 just curious, Tim ,then I assume it's similar to the one in my ' 55 Merc ; it had vacumn to compress the spring in the pump, when released, the spring would pump the fluid out ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 They have check valves built in..(flapper) empties on the the push stroke..refills on the return stroke..at least this one does. Quote
