Reg Evans Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 You're a very bad young man Ed Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Now, all ya gotta do is make it work. Quote
woodscavenger Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 That's bad? Wow, you're really livin on the edge! Now if it comes with an entire car...... Quote
Young Ed Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 Now, all ya gotta do is make it work. I've got all the rest of the pieces already. I'm still working on making the elec box doo-dad to allow me to use this turn signal switch and have 3 brake lights and turn signals. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Well, Ed, I 'spect you can do it. My money's on you. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Ed, That looks like the self canceling switch. I though someone had one of those some years back on the old forum and said the wheels did not make contact with the P15 steering wheel. Might want to make sure they make contact before getting into it too deep. Nice find though, those are hard to find. Quote

Had to fabricate the piece with the legs that fits in the wheel and cancels the switch. Works great. Jim Yergin Quote

I have the plastic housing for it and the handle at home already along with a used switch. These units only self cancel with this piece attached to the bottom of the steering wheel. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 My turn signal self cancels faster in the winter than in the summer. Any ideas? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 OK, I know Mopar had one but just remember someone said it didn't work for them on their P15. Ford also had one of those, so I know how they are supposed to work. Brother in law has one either for his 36 or 38 Ford, forgot which one. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 My turn signal self cancels faster in the winter than in the summer. Any ideas? Yea, keep your arm out there longer. You don't have winter in Tennessee anyway. When our temperature up here is as warm as your winter days, I ride around with the window open anyway. Quote
Oldguy48 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Did you figure out a circuit for the elec box doo-dad? I've been working through a similar issue for my P15. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 Yes I've got the plans and all the parts thanks to Jim. He built the same thing I am trying to. Quote
Oldguy48 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 OK...I found a circuit that seems to work well, in case you needed it. Quote
Aussie D25 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 So what would be a decent alternative to those folks that don't have one of these MoPar raraties ... I plan to have my bus on the road as a regular driver, not daily yet just be able to take it out whenever I feel without having to get a movement number and register my trip with a club. To do that it would have to have indicators so just wondering what type of switching alternatives there are ? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Aussie.......probably you can find one like this at an auto supply store. Or, they are usually on ebay. Work with 6 ro 12 volt. 7 wires. You just have to remember to turn them off after going around the corner. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Aussie, The switch BobT posted works good. Have had one like it on my coupe since about 1996. If you can't find it where you live, they are sold in the online catalogs like Speedway, etc. Quote
RobertKB Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 I also have a switch like the one Bob T posted in my D25. Works great and looks good and is durable as I have had it for 20+ years. Ed, good luck with the project. Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 simple explanation why his turn signal works faster in Winter than in Summer. The electrons huddle closer together to keep warm in Winter so the distance between them is less and they exchange chargers more quickly. You are welcome Don. Anything else you want to know? Know it all, Frank weotj Quote

Came up with somewhat of a fix/help. I have changed to a dual intake so had no need for the throttle or chock cables so removed them and measured the hole in the center of the bezels which is right at 5mm. Went to Radio Shack and they had some LED's that are 5mm with lead-wires and a resistor built in. Did some very minor sanding with some emory cloth and they had a good force fit into the bezels. Now I have indicators on the dash that do not look like an afterthought. Still drive with them on sometimes but not as long with the reminder. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 20, 2009 Author Report Posted February 20, 2009 I'll be using a dodge high beam indicator with the turn signal arrows built into it. Will have to be slightly modified for plymouth use. Quote

I also have an LED in dash blinker to tell me when the signals are on. The dash indicator is completely hidden when the signals are not on. You could look all day and never find it unless I turned on the flashers. Since my original radio did not work and I can't see spending the money to make it work, I removed the radio. Then I picked up a P15 Radio Head only, mounted an LED light in it, then hooked that up to the turn signal indicator. That way when the signals are on, the radio face flashes. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 My under-dash pair of turn signal reminder lights is kinda hinky.....but they work. I need to make a better mount for them. However, if I ever install the better signal unit that's lying around, probably won't need them. Someone in the past said they attached a beeper unit from Radio Shack to the signals.....so they have an audio reminder. Horn button on the right is to operate my siren. Quote
