Don Jordan Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 You may not do this but every now and then I run across something I've put in a "safe place." This sort of caught me by surprise. While I was looking for something else I found the little (I don't know what it's called) script that says: DELUX but then I found two that said "SPECIAL DELUX" What's the difference? I'm putting my car back together and now don't know which one to use. Quote
steveplym Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Well is your car a deluxe or special deluxe. The special deluxe usually has lots of chrome on the dash and the regular deluxe does not. These go on the rear top of the fenders below the hood. Quote
steveplym Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 If your dash looks a lot like this I'd say it is a special deluxe. I think painted wheels and a few other options signifies it as a special deluxe. It also says special deluxe in the center of the dash. Quote
wldavis3 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Hell, Don, I put stuff in "safe places" all the time. That is why, any time I go to the store to buy something, I always buy three of the same thing, and, when I get home, I put the three identical items in three locations, so that later, I will have a better chance of finding at least one of them !!! TodFitch Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Serial number (on the front driver side door post) will tell you, by the number range it is in, if the car came from the factory as a Deluxe or Special Deluxe. I have serial numbers posted at: http://www.ply33.com/Misc/vin and I think the numbers for P15 are posted on the main part of this site too. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 If you have stainless steel trim around your windshield, you have a Special DeLuxe. The only way I can find stuff I put away so I don't lose it, is to go buy another one. The one I stowed will then immediately show up. Quote
Don Jordan Posted February 2, 2009 Author Report Posted February 2, 2009 One of the things I really like about this forum is that every time I do something that is really stupid and I think I'm the only one that's ever done it - I know I can count on you guys for support because you do stupid things too. My grill looks like the picture (only not as shiny yet) - also after finding out what wood graining cost I had my dash painted as well. So I'm going to guess it's a Super Dooper Special Deluxe - while I'm on the subject - should it be painted red? Quote
Don Jordan Posted February 2, 2009 Author Report Posted February 2, 2009 How silly - I just read my post and I meant to say should the stainless signature on the car "Special Deluxe" have a red back ground? Also I've noticed that sometimes I see the emblem on the front of the hood also with a red back ground. Is that stock or extra? Quote
RobertKB Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Yes, it should be painted red but I am not sure I like it. I did mine years ago but you get so used to seeing no red on the cars that it looks a little odd. Oh well, it's been that way for a long time so I will leave it but they were painted from the factory. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Hey Don, I had that same problem, I go to a swap meet and find the part that I had been looking for and bring it home and lose it. I got real tired of that:mad: so what I did was I bought some tennis shoes and kept the box. This box I put all small items for my car. I never lost a item again in fact even right now I have extra parts that I found that have been lost for years and I put in there, I have different boxes for differet car makes. A guy needed a handle for his Studebaker and I went right to it:) When it comes to "special delux and Delux" I don't have that problem as I have a "RoadKing" it's a no frills model however I dressed it as best I could. The windshield has stainless however I have no belt trim. Oh and I painted my dash also and rechomed evey little part. The red outline on the emblems go back a long ways as my car has it on the rear trunk and on both sides in the very front..it's a P-9 Did I say I like that color! Quote
Brendan D25 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Don, the paint job looks good. Where the Special Deluxe emblem goes I can't see any holes. Are they filled? Also it looks you filled the center of the hood for a smoother look. What brand of paint and colour did you use? Brendan. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Rodney, I have used your method of putting little loose things in a box. Lost the box. Quote
