That's what I was referring to. The rear fender looks like it's sagging to the rear.

Anyone have a photo of another Woodie for comparison ?

Thanks Dennis. Yeah....if you compare the bottom of the rear fender to the bottom of the rear bumper you can see that the eBay one is much lower than the green one. Kinda sad.

Maybe they could at least reposition the stainless fender trim to be more parallel with the ground.

100K seems to be the starting point for woodies of that vintage, even with minor issues. they tend to be pretty scarce.

i guess it depends on how much is original, and the potential buyer.

also, i wonder if the camera angle makes it appear more "tilted"?

Looks like they put the rear fenders on just like they found them.....in the before pictures.

I think they may be looking for one of those, I'll send you the check with some extra for the shipping agent deals.

And it is the week after Barrett Jackson was on.

On the woody from woodiesusa.com the bottom of the rear fender is even with the bottom of the rear bumper, whereas on the one from ebay it sags several inches lower, explaining the discrepancy with the trim.

Since the wood matches the angle of the fender it seems as though somebody rebuilt it poorly, not catching the error (if it was ever caught, unless the other side is even worse) until after everything was reinstalled. Whatever the reason, it smacks of a major rebuild to the entire rear quarter and work that sloppy isn't worth a fifth of the asking price, if that.

If so little attention was paid to what can be seen, I'd be curious as to how many cans of STP it took to keep it from smoking.

That thing sure was a mess before they started restoring it. Its a wonder it turned out as well as it did. I couldnt live with the fender like that. There must be some way to fix it so its not so obvious.

Look at the entire section behind the door.....from the roof on down.....looks

like it all slopes.....

They must not have researched it very well......just went with where things on the original vehicle were

positioned, thinking they were "right". Looks like pretty good woodwork aside from that.

However, to make the thing suitable to most people, you'd have to tear into it to correct their handiwork.

Which would likely be a large pain. And probably expensive on top of the sale price.

Yes it does. But.........you could probably work the top of it out with a belt sander to make it look straighter. That stainless fender trim is what really makes it look bad in my opinion.

The '49 in the picture is an early '49, which is like the '48. It is completely wood from the sides up. The '49 pictured later in this thread (from woodiesusa) is the later '49, which has a metal top. I doubt either provides more support or structure.

My '49 is a later one and I can say for a fact that the frame is straight and never damaged. The key is that the trim on the rear fender needs to be parallel with the trim on the front fender and the horizontal wood lines. The one on EBAY aint right. Look at what they started with and it is apparent why. The poor car is a complete rebuild and the frame is probably plagued with rust and sagging in the back (as someone pointed out, the whole back looks to be sagging).

A lot of work went into that car. It is too bad they did not research it better. That fender just looks "off" and would not be an easy fix.

..Yeah the gap on the r/1/4 window dont line up with the r/r door .... i'd like to have been the carpenter on the recieving end when it was time for the owner to pay up ! My p-15 would be looking pretty sweet right about now..:) Mike

A couple of note on woodies.

The poor economy has taken a toll on the woodie market just like everything else. A rather nice 49 P18 wagon on ebay recently, with a buy it now price of $29.500 got no bids. The wagons that everyone wants are that other Brand X, because there are a lot of them and aftermarket parts are easy to find. The most saleable woodies are resto rods with all the comforts of home,350/auto/etc, but the look of an antique. There are lots of woodies with price tags of over $100k, but not too many takers. Buyers have become more sophisticated and discerning on what they are willing to spend their money on.

As for the P18 wagon on ebay, the rear fender is definitely wrong on both sides of the car. You would have to replace the fender arch and maybe the entire rear quarter to correct this. To accurately reproduce the bodywork of these wagons you need to have solid original parts to use as patterns for a carving duplicator. I know of only one shop that has Mopar patterns on hand. Tom Kline in Manchester PA. The wagon on ebay diverges from stock in many ways, probably because what they started with was so rough. For the most part the workmanship is actually quite good. Shame about those sagging rear fenders.

All the P18 wagons had steel roofs. Wood and canvass roofs stopped with the P15s and a few of these might have been made in early 1949. I believe the wagon ebay has a vinyl roof and wooden slats on the inside to give it that old woodie look.

A real pity to put in so much fine detail work and woodwork, but miss that one big flaw. Since he is selling with zero miles after completion, either someone spilled the beans about the rear fenders, or else he is suffering from Barrett-Jackson syndrome.

OMG....at least run a string line and straighten out the rear fender stainless........then keep it until Obama fixes things.
