I use to start my coupe up in the winter too to keep the battery going. Would even pull it out of the garage most of the time to let it run. I always thought that would keep the battery good too. However, I've only had one battery for the coupe that lasted about 3 or 4 years tops. All the others were gone within a year or two. Now, I don't drive my coupe as much as others drive their old cars. But.......during the summer it always got started and moved around at least about every other week or so, even if I wasn't driving it someplace. I don't have a shut off on the post, just the cables and they are always connected.

That said, my brother in law pulls the batteries out of his 36 & 38 Fords every winter and puts them on the bench. He then charges them on the charger about once a month. However, he has the same problem with his 6 volt batteries only lasting about 2 or 3 years tops too. So, he said he's going to pick up a tender like I have for them to see if it helps cut down on replacement. By the way, for those Optima fans out there. One of my brother in laws batteries is an Optima and gets the same life period out if it. So, evidently the same happens to them.[/quote']

Went out to the garage and put the volt meter on the battery, it was 6.4 volts, started the engine, it went first crack. After a 20 minute run, my battery was then reading 7.0 volts, will check tonight again for voltage drop. I have a cut off switch, and it is in the off position, so if my battery drops voltage after a time, it may be becoming weak, and will possibly need to be replaced.......Fred PS my lawn tractor battery is going on 5 years, Sears Honda powered tractor, 12 volt, this year I trickle chagre it every other month. For the first 4 years, I just brough the battery in the house, and it is very strong, or wass it's 4 years of service. We shall see this spring how she be..........Fred

:) Well, My wife can't see these posts because she is well out of here mind:p Monday is our 24 wedding day, she has been dancing around here to Ray charles "unchain my heart" over and over:mad: Oh man. It's cool, the good news is I won't make 24 more:cool: I bought her a little dress and I'm taking here out. Guess what I'm driving......I'll give you a hint It's a tan 2dr coupe;) A two seater for well.......you know:) oh boy!

In case you don't know it on the firewall there is a second sheet metal hole right next to the steering column. It was original put there for second heater under the dash. I think this sheet metal knock hole is on all Mopars. That is where I mounted mine kill switch and it was a very easy installation. By the way I use a six volt motor cycle charger on my battery and I have never had any problems. Oh yes I also have that red and black switch mounted as my kill switch. You can buy them at most car part stores and if you have a car swap coming to your area they usually will have a vendor with that style switch for around $10.

You guys didn't mention the cost of a new six volt battery and I know I just bought two for my motor home around $100 dollars each. Got to buy two more this spring and then all my batterys will be up to snuff.

The 6 volt battery I bought about 3 weeks ago was $80.
