Olddaddy Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 I have been emailing with Igor in the Netherlands about his broken exhaust manifold. His 51 Plymouth Cranbrook is a daily driver and a broken manifold makes that a less than charming activity. I do not currently have a manifold I can send him, does anybody have one? If you do and are not familiar with overseas shipping I can help with that as I do it routinely. If one of you guys in England have any leads that might also be helpful. Owning and operating a Plymouth in Europe is something we can all help with, so let's see what we can do for Igor. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 If your guy has the internet, have him (or you) make a post on the POC board about this. Can't think of his name off hand right now, but there is a guy in the Netherlands who owns a 55 Plymouth that may be able to help him locate a manifold. He has even made a couple of post on this board in the past asking questions. There is also someone that's sort of a regular on this board this lives there. Has the 49 or 50 business coupe with flames on it. Quote
greg g Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 can't he remove it and have it welded??? Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 I think it's broken into two pieces making repairs unlikely to be successful. I'm hoping someone here can help him out. Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Report Posted January 20, 2009 51 Plymouth would be 218, 23" block. Quote
Allan Faust Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 51 Plymouth would be 218, 23" block. Not necessarily charlie, if it is an export model, it could be a 25".... mines a 218, but a 25" block.... Allan Quote
PatS.... Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Not necessarily charlie, if it is an export model, it could be a 25".... mines a 218, but a 25" block....Allan That's why I asked. Most export models were built in Canada and had the 25 inch block. They are importing quite a few from the US as well, which would be the 23 inch block. Probably worthwhile to take a tape measure to it just to be sure;) Anyway, I may have a 25 inch exhaust manifold. Quote
rearview Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 If it's a small block, I've got one laying here. He pays shipping and duty... it's his. Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Report Posted January 20, 2009 You foreign guys are just too smart for us Americans..........I checked though and it's a 23" block, must have been an American expat. Nice to know you're looking though, thanks for the help. Quote
greg g Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 There is this on i an e bay store but hopelessly overpriced. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge-flathead-218-230-6-CYL-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD_W0QQitemZ380093181194QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116 Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 FredsV8shop has matters well in hand:) Go get em' Fred! Quote
igor@dcharged Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Hello all, This morning I sent Fred (Fred's V8 shop) an email, he live's in The Netherlands as well. We made a deal and next Saturday I'll drive my Plymouth to his place so we can bolt on the manifold. So if everthing turns out right I'll drive home with new manifold on Saturday! It's kind of funny that two Dutchmen meet through an American guy on an American messageboard. Charlie, Bob, Fred and all others thanks for helping me! This was my first time on this forum, but certainly not the last. Regards, Igor Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 23, 2009 Author Report Posted January 23, 2009 Thanks to everyone from me too! This is one truly great group of people. I'm proud to know you. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Igor, I hope the swap goes smoothly. Don't twist off any mounting studs:eek: Quote
fredsv8shop Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Goodmorning , and one more day to go for igors new manyfold !! I must say that he could not have chosen a better moment for his search because I have a " Crispy " 49 buzz coupe standing in my garage which is going on transport to Germany next week-end to a guy who wants to build a copy of The High and Mighty out of it. http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/fredsv8shop/1949%20buzz%20coupe/ This car whas as close as you get to a " Barn find " It started its life as a original import in 1949 to the Netherlands, been driven around until the late 60's than put in a wharehouse for 10 odd years and than they started to restore the car, chassis / brakes / rear axle / motor / gear box / steering all have been restored / renewed. Than unfortunaly the owner had his first stroke and the car went into the wharehouse again. In the following years it moved 4 or 5 times and finally it ended up in a leaking hay shed of a farm. During the years all kinds of parts dissapeared and you could say that there whas a empty shell left. Bought the car from the old gentleman for too much money but I did not dare to tell this old sick grandfather that his one time beautifull little buzz coupe changed over the years into a pile of junk. He told me that he had a metal workshop for more than 40 years and restored a lot of cars during that time , after concluding the deal he asked me to accompany him to another warehouse where there where some Plymouth parts I maybe could use for restoring the car. In the other wharehouse there where lost of parts lying around and I asked him what he wanted for the parts . He told me to take the whole lot with me because he did not need it anymore. That means 2 truckloads full of spare parts and tools etc.!! He did not want to have any money for it, it whas all included in the deal he said. So now the coupe going to Germany to start another live as a Hemi dragracer I feel that I can " Borrow " the exhaust manyfold for Igor because the old six will not be used in the car anyway, and Igor will have a "original Dutch" manifold on his engine. Keep you updated on the repair. Fred Quote
Normspeed Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Great story Fred. All's well that ends well. Quote
blueskies Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 First time I've noticed the creative use of the Plymouth hub caps on the High and Mighty car... Pete Quote
Young Ed Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Pete I think your interior looks a litte more comfy Quote
greg g Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 If he does the clone as the one above, make sure he makes the headers easily removeable. the group hat had this car on display at Detroit, had to remove the big megaphones before the car would fit into its trailer. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Greg if it was me I'd make sure I had a big enough trailer before I made sure they were easily removable. Quote
greg g Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Most states have an 8 foot max width unless you carry oversize load placards. The trailer was a standard dual Axle enclosed deal. Probably on an open trailer like back in the day it wasn't a consideration. Quote
Fireball Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Ramchargers freaking ruled back in the day. There was one Chrysler head engineer involved in the group if my memory serves correctly, they were used as a testing platform for many later production solutions. Was it Tom Hoover? Quote
