do you have stainless around the windshield? no radio doesn't tell much. If you have a woodgrained piece in place of the radio thats a deluxe. If you have the chrome piece where the radio goes but blanks to fill in for the actual radio buttons you have a special deluxe. Also do you have a horn ring or just a plain button?

Special deluxe. If the engine is stock to the car, the engine number reflects the Plymouth Model #. This number is located on a flat casting area on the block over the gennerator just below the head. The number should begin with a P for plymouth,

here are some pics for ya, i know alot of you guys wont like what i did to the interior but the pic doesnt really show how bad the dash was, so saving the woodgrain was not in the cards for me. and i know the doors dont have any arm rests, but she only came with one, i still plan on making some out of walnut.

Its too bad the woodgrain was that bad. Beautiful dashes when they are nice. One of dads 50s was a mild custom and the dash is painted over too. Sad. BTW your horn ring in 1/2 missing :) and you've got a 49 front bumper.

i know about the bumpers would like to find a front and rear.

so for the horn ring, is there a second peice that mounts somewhere behind/in front of whats there? cuz its not broke, looks like it was made that way. at least there are no marks or breaks like the horn ring was snapped off.

Nope its all one piece. The circle should go all the way around. Its a pretty common thing to see the top 1/2 broken off. Someone may have ground it smooth to somewhat fix the damage from the break. The 49 bumpers on your car are quite popular so once you find the 50 models i'm sure someone will take the 49s off your hands. You'll probably break even or even come out ahead on that deal.

Ed's right......that ripple bumper is from a 49 Plym. Does the rear bumper

match it?

The broken horn ring is very common in these old cars, as they were not

real strong, and one usually pushed on the top half to honk the horn.

That's a rather hefty looking steering wheel knob you have.

Hey, the door panels are fine.....you gotta do what you gotta do.

I made my own panels from vinyl.....nowhere close to original, but

look OK. Personally, I would install the arm rest as I tend to lean

on it when driving along for any distance. You can probably find

one for the passenger door at a salvage yard, or eventually on ebay.

I think there would have some script, probably on the rear part

of the front fenders, that said "Special DeLuxe" .

yeah i saw that truck for sale a while back, not bad. as far as the "special deluxe" script very well could have been, the car has been givin a bondo bath and repainted,

hehe, the steering knob came off my old john deere combine. i love a suicide knob! although i will say my plym. steers 10 times easier than my buddy's buick, and ford.:D

Yup, there should be a "special deluxe" script right in front of the front doors, just above the stainless fender trim. There should be three small holes on each side for these to mount through the fender.

My horn ring looked just like yours when I bought my car... top half missing.

Looks like you have the base model heater and controls.

Here's a pic of mine. Hit reload if the pic doesn't show up.

Looks like an aftermarket radio antenna too, the original went on the driver side fender like this-

And your hood letters should be like this, if you ever want to put them back on... (less the bugs, of course :D)

love that car Pete!

ya, i've got the "plymouth" letters and the top piece of grill trim to put on after i grind off the plug welds from the back side of the hood and fenders. Oh yeah, and antenna was a very crappy after market and since been removed.

It just occurred to me that there is a radio antenna on the car.....but I

see no radio. Must have been one at one time.

Not a bad car, all in all. Seen lots worse. Just keep plugging along

and you'll have it slicked up before you know it.

I have a radio similar to that I think my uncle said it was in his 36 Dodge. He pulled it when he sold the car prior to joing the navy in 43. Found it when he was moving and gave it to me. Think mine is a motorola or philco, a friend has it trying to see if it will work. The tubes and speaker are in a metal box that mout to thr firewall, the contorls are is a small box and attached tot he mainbody with a speedo cable thing.

My car had the same radio delete caps in the radio dash bezel that you have. The big slot had been changed to a chromed flat piece though, that had prevously had some kind of radio in it. It did have the factory type antenna on the fender.

As usual, if the pics don't show, hit reload...

I've since added a factory radio (converted to 12v AM/AM) and a power antenna. Also recently added a NOS dash clock that looks handsome in the dash, but doesn't work due to the negative ground system on now on the car. The clock was a lucky trade, a fellow found my car on-line and asked if I'd trade my plastic filler piece for the clock. I jumped at the chance.

That cable looks similar, can't quite tell from the pic, but is one end slotted? It fits over the tuing deal in the main box. The control head had the numers on/off volume and the tuner on the box that is bolted to the dash.

looks to be "PI8" is the "I" supposed to be a "1" or an "I"??

sorry for all the stupid questions guys, i'm just happy that you all are willing to give up all your info on these cars! nobody around here really can tell me much about them.

thanks again

My first old Plymouth was a 49. They are P-17 for the Deluxe, and P-18 for the Special Deluxe. My brother has a 50, they are P-19 for the Deluxe, and P-20 for the Special Deluxe. I’ve heard that all the motors where stamped P-18 in 49, and P-20 in 50. Lee
