John Burke Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I decided to start another project this winter. It will be a retro/vintage speedster with a mostly home made body. We salvaged a cowling from a 30-31 A cabroliet in my BIL's fire which he gave me and that is the start. I am looking for 19" wire wheels (not fords) in good shape. I also need a 4 cly. power plant with an automatic tranny hooked on it that runs good....will consider any suggestions. Yes I will have some MOPAR stuff on it...Oh, one other thing....they have to be cheap...Not asking much am I?...I have most everything else or can get it easily......thanxz, John Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Sounds like a 2.3 l Ford engine with Auto Trans from a 80s to 90s Mustang would fit the bill for a power mill if your looking for a 4 cyl power plant. How about a slant 6 powered A model old skool rod, complete with 3 deuces and split exhaust. Or a 4cyl Chevy engine with 2 spd powerglide trans from an early ChevyII, but that would be a little more difficult locating that set-up. Joh, just a ??, why a 4cyl powertrain? The more I think about it, if you went with a 4cyl set-up, the Ford 2.3 l engine and auto trans could fit the bill..........Fred Quote
greg g Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Hey John, how about an engine from a Nissan or Toyota pickup. You might also consider a 2.3 turbo 4 out of a volvo 200/700/900 series. Those are simple motors that last forever, and the turbo puts out about 180 hp. Should be plenty of them in the recycle yards. what are you going to do for the rest of the body, little boat tail????
