rolliejoe Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 can anyone identify what color this car is? Of course it's hard to capture the true color with the camera. Thanks. btw, the second picture is probably closest. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 It is tough to tell from the photos. Here are the color names based on what I saw in the pictures: light green= Nile Green Metallic medium green= Sherwood Green light gray= Sterling Gray There were only the two shades of green offered in 1951 to my knowledge. Tim Frank Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Don't vehicle numbers contain paint colour info? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 If it is a green color on your car, your color appears to be the Nile Green color. It is a light to medium green and I cannot see any metallic in it. The other green color offered in 1951 is the much darker Sherwood green. This is info out of the 1951 Plymouth upholstry and paint book. Bob Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Forgot to mention if it is light blue it`s called Wedgewood blue . It`s hard to tell from the pictures! Bob Quote
rolliejoe Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 Looks like nile green is it. The chart @ http://tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/ shows two nile greens. Is the poly metallic? Mine is not. Looking to paint my wheels for now. Thanks for the help. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Nile green is not a metallic for 1951. Quote
B-Watson Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Nile green is not a metallic for 1951. When the 1951 models were introduced, Nile Green was a metallic. Sometime during 1951 Nile Green Metallic (Ditzler 41049, DuPont Dulux 181-10483, DuPont Duco 202-55819) was replaced by Nile Green (Ditzler 41044, DuPont Dulux 93-55873, DuPont Duco 246-55873). The colour code remained the same, 460 for single tone. Nile Green non-metallic was available again in 1952. Bill Vancouver, BC Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I again looked at the Nile green sample out of my 1951 Plymouth paint/Upholstry book. Bill you are correct as it Does appear to be a metallic paint. I have seen several original Nile green Plymouths with old paint on them-they never appeared to be metallic! Now after checking the paint sample again I can see metallic in the sample---but I had to really look deeply at the paint chip. The metallic is so fine it is really hard to tell. The paint has very very very fine aluminum dust in it- the particulate is extremely fine . Bob Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I'd venture to say wedgewood blue..look as the same color as on my 52 Club coupe Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Best way to tell whether metallic or not is clean off a small section of firewall, and look with strong light and magnifying glass if necessary. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Here is the Wedgewood blue. I think these old very fine metallic colors were called "Poly-Chromatic". I also agree the firewall is the best sample area if it has never been repainted. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 And more Nile color info! Bob Quote
rolliejoe Posted November 23, 2008 Author Report Posted November 23, 2008 Here's another shot with the flash off. With the chalking and a flash the pictures come out looking blue, and that's with 2 different cameras. The pillar area I wet sanded and buffed to try and get to the color. Firewall still has the factory markings and the paint is somewhat chalked too. What's crazy is that the trunk area is blue, but the cab floor is green. Was there a lighter green for 1951 than nile green? thanks! Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 Nile green is the lightest plymouth green for 1951, and it looks from your last picture that thats what color paint is on your Plym! Quote
B-Watson Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Yes, that last photo is definitely a green colour, and about as close as one could get to Nile Green, I suspect. Bill Vancouver, BC Quote
