Running a 230 in my 41 Desoto 3window and spotted an early 50's chrysler at the lcal yard with a nice looking spitfire (also a 6) in it. I was wondering if that head would bolt onto my block cause it would look good. Could obviosly just go and measure it up but I'm figuring on how to approach the owner as he is one of those guys you gotta catch on the right day in the right mood. So far we get along well enough but iv'e seen him be real cool to me and turn around in the same breath and throw someone out of the yard. There are dogs...

If it is the original desoto it should bolt right up with no problems....but if you have the shorter engine from a plymouth or dodge then it wont fit. the desoto and the chrysler both have a 25" long block. the others a 23" block. hope this helps a bit. Mack:cool:

yeah, I had to yank the original motor from the 41 and believe me, its longer than the 230 i dropped in. Welded up some new mounts. So the spit fire is the longer block then? Might look good on the wall though!

Or you can sell it to good old me! if it is not too expensive. . . .:D

The oly difference is the spitfire casting which was Chryslers marketing division ame for thier engine. There is no difference in compression between the marked head and any other head on a 25 inch block except of course that compresion seemed to increase annually during the time.

But if you have a long block the Spitfire deal is cool to look at. I believe the factory painted the raised letters and lightening bolt red against the silver.

Well Don,

You can fool some people sometimes and the rest of the people the other times but you just can't fool all the people all the time :rolleyes: .

Hmm...

Should it go like;

"You can fool all the people sometimes and some people all the time,

but not all of the people all of the time..."

I quess, we at the forum are those "some people" ... all the time.

However, Reg's "SpitSfire" is the coolest flattie in the west. If I ever get my engine painted tidy silver,

I will steal that idea and paint my own SpitS... That would make my D24 the only SpitSfired Dodge in Finland.

Here is the actual quotation - I had no idea it was attributed to Honest Abe as I thought it was newer than that.

"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."

Abraham Lincoln, (attributed)

16th president of US (1809 - 1865)
