Welcome to the forum and looks like quite a project there.
If I was starting a project like that I would look into modifying it as well.
I like stock and modified, doesn't really matter, just do what you want and enjoy it. As long as your not sending it off to the crusher it sounds great in my book!
Looking forward to seeing your progress.
I'm working on getting my wipers in working order. Rain X works well, but as much as I want to drive it would be nice to have working wipers. I have the vacuum line hooked up to the intake and have a vacuum hose running off the line into the car and to the wiper motor.
This motor as far as I know has not been rebuilt or serviced. Was in the car.
If the wiper arms are not connected the motor will run fine, once connected it will not turn the wipers at all. Do I just need to have the motor rebuilt or is there possibly a problem with my vacuum lines or motor just not having good vacuum?
I'm thinking more towards the motor leaking vacuum internally and the motor just needing rebuilt. Wondered if anyone who has experienced this would agree?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Here's a pic of it when he first got it in '75. No brakes, no gas tank, in pretty bad shape.
Here is what it looked like when first restored. About '81 I think. Like I said the old lacquer is starting to show it's age now. New paint and bodywork can wait awhile. I want to drive it and enjoy it for a while.
Drove it today to a car show and had a really good time. Car drives great and very enjoyable to ride in.
Here's the turn signal/headlamp block on the front of my p-15.
On mine it appeared to be rewired so I just ran wires directly out to the turn signal's. Only one wire in the turn signal's.
Decided didn't need park lights wasn't worth the hassle.
Headlights connect on the lower 2 terminals and top terminal was for rt. turnsignal. Left turnsignal was run direct.
My grandfather restored this car from 1975-1980. Car was repainted with blue lacquer in 1980. It is starting to show its wear, but that lacquer still shines.
Working on getting it fun and safe to drive for now and will worry about redoing the paint and bodywork later.
I'll have to post some pics of what it looked like before it was restored. It has come a long way since then.
Took old blue out for a drive tonight. Went about 35 miles round trip. Decided to stop at a small country church and take some photos.
First drive since replacing the wiring and all the brake lines the last month or so. Everything works great! All the gauges work and the generator is charging beautifully. Amazing what new wiring and the correct wire size will do for an old car.
My new brake switch works good too and lights up all the lights on the back.
Got the choke fixed too. Now just need to fix the wipers.
Thanks for all the ideas and help you guys give me on this forum.
Very much appreciated.
Hey I tried this and it worked great! Removed the old cable and purchased a new choke cable from the auto parts store. Pulled the old cable out of the choke knob and rod. Soldered the new cable into the end of the rod and put it back into the cable protector and sleeve.
Works great and looks like original. Great idea, thanks for the help!
My choke cable broke on my p-15 the other day. Anyone have an extra they would like to get rid of? All I really need is the knob and the cable.
Or does anyone know how to convert an aftermarket cable to fit with the original knob. I know the cable is molded to the rod and knob.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Pete, I agree with suddensix. Since I got rid of the old bias WWW on my p-15 and put on the radial tires it has made a world of difference. It was wandering all over the road before that. Didn't use tubes either, but running the tubeless tires.
Good luck on your trip. Have fun!
Just finished wiring the brake switch and routing the wires away from clutch, engine, etc. Finished wrapping the harness and putting it in the right hangers and putting the rubber grommet back on the firewall.
All thats left is to road test it. Interior is back together and I still have a few small items to install. Updated the gallery with a couple more pics.
Thanks for all your help and support during this endeavor. Was well worth the work.
Well today I finished wiring and taping the harness. Put the dash back in place and made sure everything works. Did not have one problem, yet.
I haven't driven it yet. I finished installing the watson streetworks brake switch and got it adjusted to my liking. Really is a pretty simple install. I'll add some pics of that tommorow once I finish wiring it. I also installed the Foxton turnsignal switch. Very nice switch and was really easy to install.
Added some more pics to the photobucket album. The link is at the top of this thread.
Kind of off topic, but I did the same thing with my '65 Chevy truck I restored.
The outer color is original cardinal red and the interior color is a exterior gray color for the same year. Looks much better than the original interior paint in my opinion.
