  1. @casper50 Did that include disassembly/reassembly? If so, that was a good deal. If not, that was a good deal!! Just a parts kit from Egge is $1,600+
  2. @kansascoronetguy I likewise haven't had the chance to get under the 50 Coronet I have. Hopefully this weekend.
  3. It wouldn't be out of line to ask those questions. After all, it's your money and your engine. In my experience balancing is generally treated as an extra service. Parts are refurbished when possible and economically feasible. Connecting rod bearings, main bearings, cam bearings, camshaft and lifters, and rings should be replaced. It's rare to find an engine with many miles on it that doesn't require cylinder boring and piston replacement. Crankshafts can usually be ground and proper bearings installed. Connecting rods will need to be resized and bushed. Valves and seats can be ground if not too worn. Valve guides should be replaced. Line boring isn't always required but should be checked. New oil and water pumps are cheap insurance. Detailed paperwork should be supplied and any parts that were too bad to use should be returned. The machine shop may have a source for parts other than the ones you mention so it wouldn't hurt to ask them. I used the same couple of machine shops for the last 40 something years. One of them was a one-man operation and we became close friends over the years. Sadly he passed away last year so I'm stuck with one local production shop that I trust. There are some local specialty machine shops but they're more committed to commercial customers. I've had work languish for months at those. Good luck!!
  4. It does look sorta Dartish. Good looking car!! Was it always a convertible or is the top different than the original??
  5. And that, ladies and gentlemen; is comedy!!
  6. Nice looking car!! That's one of those............What in the heck is that anyway??
  7. Sending you a pm with Tom at AMS e-mail and some more info. He's a GREAT guy and does some of the best Harley cylinder head work in the country.
  8. Those are super cool!! A Weiand blower through the hood would make 'em more recognizable to a lot of folks..
  9. Yeah, that '67s a bit rough. It set in the fencerow at the back of my property for about 25 years. I had to move it a couple of years ago and someone asked me if it ran and after cleaning the carb and putting a new fuel line on the bottom of the tank it fired right up! It's hard to kill a bug!!
  10. @Dan Hiebert Nice VW!!
  11. Not all cars but here ya go.
  12. Pictures of the brakes and a rear shot might help identifying it. I have a 50 Coronet at my other place. I'll try to take a look at the casting numbers later today.
  13. Dripping water into the carb works, I've done it many times. I'm sure you remember the JC Whitney "water injection" setup. Varying results reported from that one.
  14. Click on the envelope at the upper right of the page. Just noticed I sent you a message in July
  15. Check your pm's
  16. That's a really nice looking car!! You're sure to enjoy it!
  17. KH, U the MAN!! After reading this thread I'm thinking about de-coking every engine I own. What could possibly go wrong??
  18. This ain't rocket science, any good machine shop can take care of what sounds like a routine rebuild and parts for this engine are readily available. If you don't know or trust a local machinist try Automotive Machine and Supply in Cleburne. Like any real machinist Tom is a perfectionist and as honest as you'll find. https://www.automotivemachine.com
  19. We used a pinhole device for the last total eclipse visible in the U.S. back in 1979. It worked but not as well as the welding helmet we used during Venus' solar transit in 2012. Interestingly the paths of the 2017 and 2024 total eclipses intersect here. We have glasses specifically designed for this one.
  20. Maybe the meteor shower will be a bit better tonight. I missed it entirely last night. After working all day I decided sleep was more important. Not that I had much choice if you know what I mean.. Here's the winery's website. This place is about an hour from me. https://www.moonstock2017.com In my earlier years this I would have been in for all 4 days. I have motorcycle buddies near there and the offer of a campsite within a couple of miles of this clusterf.... The closer it gets the more I think I may ride over.. Heck, I'm old, not dead!!
  21. I'm right in the path of totality. A nearby winery has Ozzy hired to play "Bark At The Moon" right at the peak of the eclipse. If I was younger I'd be there. I've always enjoyed participating in a little weirdness.
  22. Rock Auto lists bearings and gaskets for that motor so parts can't be that hard to find. May be a good time to get your hands dirty. At least if it's messed up after that you'll know who to blame.
  23. You're probably right but I'm sure the fire marshals and insurance inspectors are thinking something fishy's going on, they always do.
  24. I'm not one of the haters but I wouldn't be comfortable with a car lowered to the point that the frame or part of the suspension would drag in case of a sudden flat tire. I lowered one of my non-Mopar cars a couple of inches with blocks but if I was doing it again I wouldn't lower it at all. I'm old enough to appreciate a car that sets up a bit. Makes it easier to get in and out of!
  25. That's a shame. I sometimes look through their website and their prices aren't out of line but a lot of inventory wasn't moving. My brother and I were just talking about them a couple of days ago and the fact that old vehicles in general haven't been selling all that well lately. Hopefully there isn't a connection.
