  1. FWIW, forklifts with Mopar flathead sixes could be equipped to run on CNG, so adapting a car shouldn't be too complicated. Wouldn't be the way to go for a real show car, but may have merit for a 'driver'. Harold
  2. Barry, Welcome to the forum. This is the best one on the net for flathead-powered Mopars. Good looking Cranbrook to start with, and I'm sure it'll look even better when it's finished. I've got a '52 Cambridge four-door and a '51 Concord business coupe. They are great cars, but under-appreciated by many. Harold
  3. In our original '52 Cambridge, my father would get the radio to work by whacking it with the palm of his hand above the dial face. I've done the same thing in several subsequent '52's. He used to say you had to jar the vibrator to get it going. Harold
  4. I listen to mid-sixties to mid-seventies Rock. Especially partial to Steely Dan.
  5. The best bet is with the correct puller. Try contacting your local Pep Boys or Auto Zone to see if they have one as part of their tool loaner program.
  6. Greg, I did a lot of dealer swaps when I worked at dealerships years ago and then as an 'independent' to pick up extra cash. I learned the hard way not to trust fuel guages. I once took a new car to NYC from NJ, and stopped along the way to pick up the lot kid, who dropped an identical car at another dealership. The fuel guage in the car I was driving read half full. I happened to ask the kid why he put so much gas in this one, and he said he didn't put any gas in at all, because it was half full when it came off the truck. Just as he said this, the engine died and I coasted to a halt on the side of the East River Drive in Manhattan....not a fun place to run out of gas! As far as driving for fuel economy is concerned, I've always been easy on takeoffs and braking, and get close to or above the EPA rating on our cars. I'll just cough up more money at the pump, like everyone else. Harold
  7. You might need 3 or more characters to activate the search function. 'T5' isn't long enough.
  8. Good question. I've got a bunch of them too, plus a lot of old TV and radio repair parts from a repair shop that closed decades ago. The only tubes I would keep are the ones that fit the Plymouth radios.
  9. Orange seems to be quite fashionable this season...... http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/car/672866004.html
  10. Only '51-2 Plymouth doors will fit. The 1949-50 doors have different curves and won't work. I think station wagon doors will fit the club coupes. Hope this helps. Harold
  11. I was frittering away some time browsing ads and found these Plymouths for sale. Might be of interest to someone here: Pair of P15's: http://richmond.craigslist.org/car/699087650.html A bright orange 1950 sedan: http://richmond.craigslist.org/car/695644658.html A highly modified '54 (probably worth it for the drivetrain): http://richmond.craigslist.org/car/694740173.html Enjoy! Harold
  12. Joe, thanks for the link to the welding web page. Interesting and informative site. I took the plunge tonight. The welder and auto-dark helmet are sitting in my kitchen (Good Housekeeping magazine won't be doing a photo shoot here anytime soon....). $163. including tax out the door. Should be interesting! I'll keep you posted. Harold
  13. There is a new Harbor Freight opening near my job in NJ this week, and after deducting the Grand Opening "10%-off anything" coupon, this welder is around $100. I need to do floor, rocker, and patch panel work in my cars. I've never welded anything in my life. Gotta start somewhere. Should I go for it? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks. 14. Shock interchange site: http://interchange.tenneco.com/search.do?type=walker
  15. Ed, I've gotten a lot of phishing emails from banks that I don't have any accounts at. I think the scammers use a 'shotgun' approach and keep contacting people without actually knowing what bank they use, hoping for a scare then a score. Harold
  16. The phone rang this morning at 7:10 AM and my wife got a recorded message saying our account at a local bank was compromised. The recording went on to give a telephone number for us to call to secure our account. I told her it was B.S. and not to be concerned. It turns out that the calling number and the call-back number are both unlisted land-lines in Colorado within a few digits of each other. Later this morning she stopped in to the bank and they told her they're aware of this scam and are looking into it. It was pretty sneaky for the scammers to call before business hours so that the 'scamees' couldn't verify anything with a bank representative. I wanted to share this so others would be aware of it. Harold
  17. Might be bad motor mount. Engine lifts when unloaded and pulls carb linkage. Harold
  18. The basic 'business model' for most repair shops is 1/3 labor(to tech), 1/3 overhead, and 1/3 profit. Here in New Jersey, posted shop rates are hovering around $100. per hour.
  19. New York City used Plymouth squad cars in the early fifties, and they were two-doors. I've seen several photos of 1950 Plymouth business coupe NYPD patrol cars. They were three-tone black, green, and white with a light on the roof over the windshield divider bar.
  20. Did FHP use Plymouths in 1953?
  21. My daughter, believe it or not, seriously wants a '67 Belvedere. She's been in love with them for years. I've told her if a really, really cheap one came along I'd consider it. Both my wife and son think my daughter and I are nuts!
  22. Norm, Happy Birthday. My daughter turned 17 today (same date as yours... you should be honored!) and passed her road test this morning on the first try. All the best.... Harold
  23. That was an excellent choice of colors. The car looks terrific. Enjoy!
  24. I read that Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, gave 25% of the site to a former employee (or business partner) who then sold that interest to eBay. I wasn't aware that eBay was trying to gain more control of Craigslist, but that wouldn't surprise me. eBay launched 'kijiji' a while ago, which is also a free local ads site with a slicker 'look' than Craigslist. I'm sure the busy minds at eBay are conjuring up ways to squeeze money out of both of those sites.
  25. From my 1989 Standard Motor Products/Blue Streak Ignition catalog: 1935-38 Points: AL-5661X Condenser: AL-118X Rotor: AL-98 Cap: AL-96 Maybe NAPA can cross these numbers to their own, or you'll find a store that sells Standard parts. Hope this helps. Harold
