  1. You'd think a vibrator would go both ways!
  2. I painted the insides of the tail and stop lights silver. Wrapping the outside of the socket and mount with tin foil reflects all of the light out of the trunk and into the lens. That seems to help as much as anything else.
  3. No, as long as the regulator is rated the same or lower than the generator. You don't want the regulator higher than the genny or it will die trying to put out more than it can. Avoid generating smoke.
  4. Likewise, I have 225/75R15's on 4 1/2" wheels, tubeless. Several years, no problems. Probably shouldn't talk about it.
  5. I found a C-40 as a 1948 Imperial, but no number C-41. 1949 starts at C-45. ??
  6. Excellent work! Maybe you should remove the paint from the screw heads, or just use new cad plated ones.
  7. I wish he had used original looking wheels and not lowered it. A great sleeper.
  8. On your birthday??? Happy Birthday Rodney!! I guess you got your present, eh?
  9. Yeah, well, Rusty, Thats what I did, put a blanket on the rook and put the hood up there for safe keeping. A few days later it occurred to me to shove the car out in the driveway to clean stuff up in the engine bay. So, I pushed the car out backwards and watched as the hood caught on the overhead door, slide off sideways, bounce off a large vise on a workbench next to the car, then bounce from on side to the other on the floor. Result; a long curved dent in the top next to the hood ornament and folded edges onboth sides at the back corners. Wait, this post belongs on the "stupid things I've done" thread.
  10. Some sort of an airporter, maybe. Whatever it is, I want it.
  11. How on earth can you connct a sad face with driving your Studebaker. Its one beautiful car!
  12. Well, this is a very informative thread. I will put on a heavy layer of polish and hope for the best. Hmmmm, maybe some custom formed stainless steel visors for them. Hmmmm
  13. OK, I just checked for vacuum at the port. At idle there is NO vacuum present. If you have a vacuum signal at idle, your idle is too high. The vacuum port is above the throttle plate. As you open the throttle, the port is uncovered and allows air to be pulled from the advance unit. Set your idle at specs and you should have no vacuum at the port. This is why the Mopar manual does not instruct you to disconnet the vacuum signal line.
  14. I just follow Ma Mopar's instructions and it works. I think if that was needed, it would say so in the shop manual, after all, they designed and built it.
  15. The dimmer switch is in a really bad position under the floor and probably needs cleaning. Too much corrosion, toss it and get another. Assuming the headlights are wired correctly.
  16. Can you slide a washer or some other shim between them and then tighten the screw? Get a kid with a small hand!
  17. It is a common misconception that you need to remove the vacuum supply before doing a timing adjustment. There is no vacuum supplied to the advance unit with the throttle at idle. Check your shop manual.
  18. I am very sorry for your loss. Real good, true friends are hard to find. Consider yourself lucky to have had one as long as you did.
  19. Thats a really good looking car! You should check for a pilot bearing in that crank, if it doesn't have one, it may have had a powerflite on it. Am I remembering things that weren't, or were Sears rebuilt engines painted gold?
  20. I thought my view that no body has improved on the orignal was just the mutterings of an old man. But someone else said it first, so I'm stickin' with it. Those pictures go from not too bad to horrible. Gimme that shiny stainless the way it was made! It don't get no better!
  21. So, what is the consensus of opinion as to how we avoid this probem? Is there something we can to prevent the crazing of the plastic? At least slow it down?
  22. There is nothing better to learn on. They're tough old cars that'll teach you a lot.
  23. WOW,,,, two bulls eye headlights. It would be really neat if they work! Fingers crossed.
  24. Two things are stuck in my brain; 153624 and 18436572. If you play with mopar dizzy caps for 50 years, things just stick with you.
