  1. There's a nasty shadow on this pic, but it give a better perspective on the latching rod.
  2. I have steel skirts & the hardware is mostly steel rods that flex to get them clipped on. The top rod is a lever that latches at the bottom, against the skirt itself. This pic looks funny because there's a big wad of plastic tape on the top of the rod which kept it from digging into the fender.
  3. I think it says "advance" not "advanced". Advance is in Michigan. Advanced is in Tennesee.
  4. Oh, hell . . . . I thought he was putting a Ford engine in a GM Suburban (which would be an improvement.)
  5. I don't drive south of "The Grapevine" except at dire necessity. I ain't had a necessity that dire in some 18 years now. I did go by plane once about 5 years ago. That nearly ended in disaster over Lake Perris, and we made an emergency landing at March AFB with a cracked fuel line.
  6. I recognized the Ghia styling right off. It was so distinctive.

    Forgotten Tools

You can buy them here at OSH, but yes, they are not the same.

    Forgotten Tools

This old telescope came out of the trunk of a well-used '53 Pontiac my Dad bought about 1968. It's dented and the leather is long gone, but it's an AO and it still works well. I took these when I took it apart recently to clean it.

    Forgotten Tools

I bought a Caprice many years back, and found this tiny toolbox in the fender. I just tossed it under my bench and forgot about it, but I wanted a few tools for the boat & remembered these. I need to give them a good de-rusting! They've basically been untouched since the 70's, and when I looked I found the name "DEE" is inscribed on most of them. The dikes are Krauter as is one of the small wrenches, There's a Williams tappet wrench and another tiny Williams, a 1960's craftsman, a couple of Vlcheks, and a couple Barcalos: an old one and a much newer chrome one. The big open end is a Dunlap. The flare nut wrench was in the front seat cushion, is a much newer Power-Built (Japanese I think) & does not say Dee. There's a Ford wrench too. Might be Model A era? I can't quite identify the offset box-end wrench. Looks like a Vlchek
  10. Over the years a guy tends to own a number of cars, and if you've bought used cars you know that something usually turns up forgotten in the car. This was in the quarter panel of my P15, left there by some smart guy who used a magnet to catch his clips & trim nuts then left his magnet, wrench, and screws inside the body when it was upholstered. Anyhow, this thread is for old tools and stuff you have found, left behind inside a used car.
  11. I followed one of these down highway 99. This guy lost a whole propane barbecue off the back of his truck. The hose snapped off and this cylinder just bounced down the highway like a rubber ball until it landed in a ditch.
  12. Oh good Lord my first one was a bamboo K+E. Mine are Picketts
  13. Oh, my Oh MY! We're having a rainy season this year! El Ninno The Christchild has come on a wave of warm air to save us from drought. My lawn lives! There will be bass fishing in the San Joaquin! And the farmers will grow stuff & make jobs for pickers and packers, for drivers and mechanics etc, and the whole economy grows and runs. For a big chunk of the population Rain is work here, and work is money, and we are blessed to have them all right now. We had a wonderful Christmas with all the Grandkids and my Mom and 21 of us (at least) for whom I cooked the roast beast. Our tiny company of 9 put on a great Christmas party, with presents for all; and we were one of the lucky one-in-six in America who actually gave out a Christmas bonus. In 22 years that I've been here, we've only had one bad year where there was but a token bonus. It is a blessing I don't deserve. I gave a substantial lump to Christmas Cheer and nice presents for everyone, plus money for all the kids, which makes me very popular. My wife got some home improvements she wanted, which makes me very popular, plus I bought a new rifle and a new pistol this month. To top it all off, we've all been working like crazy on the latest project, and we were able to wrap it up before Christmas and submit it. Now we're off until Jan 4, and the whole company is closed, so there will be time to go shooting and work in the garage. I hope you folks all had as nice a time!
  14. They make this thing similar, that hooks to your motorcycle so you can tow golf clubs, but it only has one wheel. It has a gooseneck with a u-joint at the top.
  15. Thank God that life is not all about business-as-usual, without time for the human comfort we all need to feel. Things like remembering the people who really matter, and telling them that they do. Good luck to you and Cooper, Bob, and I hope the reports are what we all wish for.
  16. I see an amazing array of "African Engineered" bike-trailer rigs going up & down the Santa Fe corridor and the Highway 99 corridor. Often much more crude than that one. I see lots of homeless people towing their little dogs on them. Probably their only friend, as they struggle to find some place to flop until the PD and the RR guys catch up to them again. Wet weather means plastic-tarp cities in the hobo-jungle tradition. The sad joke is lots of these guys were software engineers and stock brokers before they snapped... Anyhow, I always think the same thing: "There, but for grace, go I...."
  17. Have you met Darlene? She's a sweetie. Any trouble she gives Paul, he probably deserves twice.
  18. Yes, sort of like i-Robot transporters. If you saw the movie you understand. If you only read the book, you won't. Imagine big cars with sides that open wide and rows of robots hanging from racks like Vegas. LOL
  19. So, Paul, is Darlene getting a pink knee-scooter for Christmas?
  20. I used to hot-link to photobucket. I lost several photos that way, when it turned out I'd loaded them remotely and without local (or other) backups. Photobucket tossed a bunch of my stuff in a re-boot or something. Now I don't bother with services like photobucket. Every place I go, including my own site, hosts files; and I keep multiple local backups. As cheap bandwidth has flourished for many, Hot-linking is not so universally hated as it one was. But it's a poor practice and always was.
  21. When you "hot link" someone else's picture you've lost control. They can remove that photo, or change it, or replace it with pornography, or an ad for their website--just anything. If you save a photo you can upload directly or host it yourself. Then you have control over the situation. When you "hot link", It will also cause someone else's website to serve up that pic, whenever someone opens the thread here. They provide a service but you don't see the ads on their site to "pay" them back. You've essentially "stolen" their service of that photo to you, and to anyone else here who looks at the thread. I have seen cases of this where the offended site owner swaps out that cute photo for some really offensive nightmare which you would NOT want your kids to see here.
  22. Yer girlfriend wrapped her ring with parachute cord? She musta been skinny as a rail! Anyhow I learned to do that stuff from reading the Bluejacket's Manual.
  23. I saw a gal on one of these at the Rite-Aid yesterday. She had an achilles injury. It's a "knee scooter".
  24. Now that I've finished tying, this is even naughtier...errrr...knottier!
