  1. Thanks for that I'll have a look tomorrow, would that be stamped on the inside or outside of the frame? Anyone else got any clue to what the painted no's for? It's been hiding under that underseal for a long time. Simon.
  2. No, mine came already cut but i replaced them with stock height springs and left the rear end on lowering blocks as that's the look i wanted. If you do a forum search on "Front springs" you'll find plenty of info. Simon.
  3. Easiest way to lower the front end is to cut the springs you have on the car. I'd suggest cutting a little at a time to get the ride height you want as for the drive experience it'll bottom out easier on a pothole but hey you can't look cool and ride in comfort too.!!!!!!!
  4. Hi all, Finally found some time to work on the Plymouth. I was busy chipping the some old underseal away when I uncovered a painted no. stencilled on the frame upside down in red, it's on the drivers side outside rail mid point of the car. I'm guessing it's the frame no. from when the car was manufactured can anyone out there decipher it for me? It reads 3-23-48-78-30 The car's a '48 Bus. Coupe built in L.A. if thats any help. Regards.......... Simon.
  5. Nice looking Bus. Coupe Steve, good to see another over here. Ask Robin if you can borrow his door locks, they're no use on a vert!!!! regards......... Simon.
  6. Sorry to hear your news Don, I've enjoyed reading your input on the forum, keep it coming. Best wishes from across the Pond.
  7. I used KYB 344068 after much searching, they measure 9.76" compressed 15.28" extended with a 5.5" stroke, but had to change the lower shock mount on my car as these shocks have a smaller hole in the bottom mount. This is also using the shorter F1 bracket I mentioned in my previous post. By your description it sounds like you've measured wrongly, you should be measuring the distance between the centre lines of upper and lower shock mounts on your car, with the spring out and control arms reassembled lift the front hub fully up to give your compressed measurement and hanging right down for your extended measurement.
  8. What f1 shock mounts did you use, original or aftermarket? The original ferd ones measure 6 1/2" between top mounting hole and the shock mount Places like Speedway offer two lengths 6 1/2" and 5 1/2" as the hot rod boys prefer the shorter mount, if you've used the shorter one this could be your problem. I found this out the hard way when I fitted stock length springs back in my car, previous owner had done the f1 shock mount conversion with short mounts.... As said above you need to remove the spring, reassembly and measure your min/max travel between the upper and lower shock mounts and find a shock that will work. You can be a bit shorter fully extended unless your planning on getting airborne but you need a little bit extra fully compressed than your measurment to stop the shock bottoming out. Hope this helps.
  9. Hey Robin, The tall Edmunds looks good it'll give you a boost on the sand over the Sharp . Post a pic when it's fitted I'd be interested how the linkage looks. Saw your car on Friday, looked good. Regards.......... Simon.
  10. Hi all, Just updating this thread, the new seals arrived and my axles back together. I guess the lesson I learned was not to trust suppliers and pull the parts first to see what you need before ordering. regards to all ............... Simon.
  11. Saw this on ebay, nothing to do with me, may be what your looking for. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1946-1947-1948-ORIGINAL-PLYMOUTH-OWNERS-MANUAL-SERVICE-RADIO-46-47-48-6-ITEMS-/361355784093?hash=item54227baf9d:g:4zYAAOSwLVZVv4h3&vxp=mtr
  12. Good job on the axle Clay. You wouldn't happen to have the part no's for the seals you used please, been having a little trouble getting the right size inner hub seal. Regards............ Simon.
  13. This has turned into an episode of CSI !!! I've done a bit more research on these seals and i think I've found where the confusion lies In my P15 parts book, which is Oct '48 version, it shows two conflicting no's for the rear inner seals as below 1139896 measures 2.69" Outer Diameter 1.375" Inner Diameter 0.5" Width and cross references with Timken 450776 National 450776 Skf 13892 Victor 49577 Victor 49573 Mopar 1115938 1139898 measures 2.44" Outer Diameter 1.375" Inner Diameter 0.5" Width and cross references with Timken 470950 National 470950 Victor 49143 Also found this in the download section I was originally supplied with the larger seal by Rockauto but my axle, which I assume is the original one, takes the smaller seal. Has anyone else come across this when replacing inner axle seals on a P15? The other thing with the second pic out the parts book is that it doesn't list cars built in L.A., which mine car was, only Detroit and Evansville. I'm assuming they used the same rear axle for all? While I'm at it here are the details for the outer grease seal I found Original Mopar no. 859164 2.44" Outer Diameter 1.375" Inner Diameter 0.25" Width Cross references with National 6241s Skf 13797 Victor 49209 I got most of the cross reference info from this Timken site http://www.timken.co.uk/en-us/products/Documents/Timken_Seal_Interchange_and_Cross_Reference_Guide.pdf It is already in the links section under Timken Catalogs I'll update when the new seals arrive and get fitted. Regards ...........Simon.

  17. This is turning in to a right saga, I only want a couple of seals! I've just done some searching with the last 2 Victor no's given by Rich and came across MI bearings website which gives the following info VICTOR SEAL 49209 SEAL OEM PART NUMBER: 49209 OEM Manufacturer: VICTOR This product is manufactured by Timken and provides a compatible interchange with the VICTOR 49209. Timken Part Number: 6241S VICTOR SEAL 49143 SEAL OEM PART NUMBER: 49143 OEM Manufacturer: VICTOR This product is manufactured by Timken and provides a compatible interchange with the VICTOR 49143. Timken Part Number: 470950 Timken 6241s matches the outer seal no. on my car Timken 470950 cross references to National 470950 which is listed on Rockauto for a Dodge truck '46 - '50 but has the dimensions as follows Housing Bore (Inch)2.437 MaterialNitrile Outer Diameter (Inch)2.441 Shaft (Inch)1.375 Width (inch)0.375 which is looks spot on for my axle maybe I have a truck axle ? I've taken some pics of the serial no's on my diff housing so if anyone can decipher them I'd be grateful 1115941-23 3 28 4J Thanks again ...................... Simon.
