Yep, somehow I mixed up the thread I was replying to. Should have gone to MaineP15's post. Sorry

Welcome from just down the road in New Hampshire. Looks like a nice car to start with.

Thought I'd update this a bit. The rust was a bit more than I am comfortable messing with on my own, so the car is at a local shop. Body mounts are fabricated and ready to go, I'm having the rear quarters made and waiting on those for fitting so we can get the wheel arches correct (those were in the worst shape). Shop owner wanted to do some advertising, which I'm cool with. Working on the driver side first, then the passenger side. Door and fender off, down to bare metal to check for issues. There is still a ways to go, but making some progress. When all is said and done, I plan on keeping the original two tone concept, but going with the factory Sea Island Green Top/ Mint Green Body, instead of the original Ascot Grey/West Point Grey. More updates to come as things progress. Eric

Great short. I love the old commercials. Although I think there were a few of those cars used for the filming. On the jump sequences you can see the front end smashed in and bumpers and bits flying off.

Spent the last 5 hours clearing the driveway with the help of my neighbor and his John Deer with snowblower. About 3-4 feet of snow with drifts in my driveway that were chest deep (I'm 6'4" so 5' or so with drifts). Not much falling now though. Erich

Looks like we're currently about 4-5" up here in the Lakes Region of NH. Picking up and blowing strong though. My wife made it back early last night from Philly. She was supposed to drive home this evening, but got out early for the storm. Luckily the '54 is indoors right now, as its missing quite a bit of metal. Erich

Well it has taken a few extra months to get it in the shop, but making some progress on the teardown. I will need to replace the body mounts (at least the drivers side) up front. These run along the forward frame rails and turn up toward the firewall/fenders. I'm thinking they will need to be fabricated, but was hoping someone might reproduce them. Will try to post pics when I get back this evening. Eric

Great looking car. I'm in the process of rebuilding a '54 Chrysler, and this site had been great.

Good to hear it went to a good home. Looked like a neat project.

Interesting topic. I'll hopefully be ready for interior work next summer. If so will definitely check these out. Interested to see if anyone else has suggestions.

Nice, and down where I have some family too... NEed to focus on one project at a time though.

Anyone going to get hit by the big storm??

Looks like New hampshire faired well. Although we still have an estimated 200,000 without power, the winds weren't too bad. They said winds were up at at 76mph at the coast. As said before the leaves were off most of the trees, so mainly just downed branches and some minor flooding. I was a bit disappointed heading home from work, driving past the body shop where my '54 is last night, and seeing it parked outside next to a big old tree (was told it would be kept inside when it went in for work). Its only water, but still a bit disappointing. RSD -
Very cool, congrats. Looks great running on the beach.

Yeah, Pretty interesting that we both play bass. I play a mix of rockabilly and Americana. My last band, the Johnnies, split a while back. We were mostly what you could term Americana/Bluegrass. you can check out some of the stuff at www.myspace.com/wearethejohnnies , the site should still be up.

Nice, But please get a proper case for that Bass (from another upright player). RSD.

I'm sometimes amazed at what I see out in the woods up here (east central New Hampshire ). The best though, was a place just outside Athens, GA. When I lived there, there was a guy that had all manner of vehicles with trees growing around them. I'd say over 100 cars, from the 70's and earlier. Cadillac, an Edsel, and even a GTO Judge sitting surrounded by pine trees. Willing to make deals, but you had to make the arrangements to remove the trees to get the car out. I was looking for a 427 for my '67 Galaxie at the time, but it was tempting to try to find a way to get one of those cars. EDIT: BTW, I'd love a CJ8. RSD

Interesting to hear. I am getting ready to order new rockers and drivers floor, and was planning on ordering from RA. Not good to hear they are thin. Are there other suppliers out there? RSD

I agree with both of these. Having worked in sales, I try to stick with the person who has helped me. I've also seen the fun games the finance people play. One reason I try to negotiate a price, and not a payment. Unfortunately with the Mustang, the salesperson couldn't understand that I didn't want a payment, just to negotiate on the price. I made an offer, he countered with a payment, and continued to call back with updates on payments. I went elsewhere. My time is also money, and my wife and I walked out of a deal on a Mini Cooper she was interested this year. After 40 minutes of haggling the salesman, he came back after 'discussing with his manager' with the price we offered ( a fair one) at the start. My wife said they've waisted 40 minutes of our time on this and left. She had her checkbook out ready to buy the car at the start, but was so pissed with the games at the end that she decided she wouldn't buy from them.

Similar experience up here when I bought my Mustang. Dealer across the street from work wouldn't give me a solid price, just payment numbers. This even after I told him I wasn't interested in a payment. Went to deler two, a few miles from home. Salesman were too busy talking to each other. Finally they finished up their conversation and one stated 'let me go play around with this guy for a bit' and gestured toward me. I let him show me a few cars, but they lost me at the start. Dealer 3, 30 miles from home. Salesperson was there when I needed questions answered, showed me a number of options, and got me a price I was happy with. Even delivered it to my house since my work schedule made it difficult to get to them at a decent hour. Bought from them and would again. I should add that I have worked for two Motorcycle dealers in both sales and parts, and would never have treated a customer the way two of the dealers treated me.

Don't have regular television, but like to hear about how the Reds are doing. They were the team I remember most when I was a kid in Dayton, OH. Was a huge fan of Bench, Rose, and the rest of the Big Red Machine. Now that I'm in New England I suppose I'm supposed to love the Sox and hate the Yankees, but I can care less about either of them. Kind of a petty rivalry between the two teams who've traditionally had the largest purses. Still, I won't go to a game or support anything MLB until the let Rose into the Hall of Fame. Its gonna be a while. Erich

Yes, I am amazed that everything still pretty much lines up. Drivers door can be a little tough to close, but will be addressed when the new metal is put in place. The dash is definitely spartan. I am used to being able to monitor and check everything going on with the systems. My modern cars have always had full gauges. The simple layout of the Chrysler is different, but slowly growing on me. I've looked at the different models, and it's interesting to see the varying interiors the the Chrysler corp designed for this body style.

Sounds good. Don't think she'll be ready until next year if all goes well, but if your wanting to head up to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, let me know. I've got to keep the car in storage a few miles down the road this winter (the wood floors of our 112 year old carriage house out back won't support the weight without some bracing) . Trying to plan projects that I can do to some of the smaller bits this winter. Erich
