  1. Dan, glad to hear you are recovering. The wife & I were there with the Red Cross for 3 weeks the day after Gustav hit. Gustav never got the press of Katrina, (we were there for her also) or Ivan. It seemed as if the rest of the country just Ho Hummed the whole thing. We fed about 6000 people a day from the kitchen I was working from. I drove an ERV out of Baton Rouge (Florida Ave Baptist Church) as far Northwest? as False River on the other side of the Big Muddy and Eastward to Denham Springs and Mauripaus. There was a lot of devastation from fallen trees and flooding, but somehow the rest of the country just never heard about. Anyway enjoy your new garage, and Geaux Tigers. George
  2. Just a heads up. Howard Tarnoff's 49 Plymouth Coupe is on Page 60 of the Jan 2009 edition of Street Rodder Mag. Congratulations Howard!!!
  3. There was a car with a similar paint job in Modesto Ca. I saw it a couple of years ago. But I haven't seen it since that day Whether this could be the same car or not I can't say. But it sure looks the same. George
  4. Looks like 2"W 2 3/8 H.George 48 plevy cpe
  5. Another thing that I noticed, although I may be mistaken, is that the dash has been repainted. Or perhaps the 49's did not have woodgraining. Me thinks that it has been restored at some point and is not an "original survivor" . I did like the history lesson though. George
  6. Any big box auto parts store like Kragens, Checkers, Pep boys. or Auto Zone Should have lap belts in stock or will be able to order them for you. Here in Calif, all the aforementioned places have them on the shelf. Also they are a cinch to in stall. I have them front & rear.
  7. Well, Don saved me from writing an essay. I'm with him all the way. George
  8. I use "Water Wetter" in my P15 w SBC. I was having some problems on hotter days with the A/C running. It seems to have dropped the temps 5-10 degrees, but not much more. Also it seems to me that it took a couple of weeks of running for the temps to really drop those 5-10 degrees. I"m running about 70%water & 30% antifreeze and one bottle of Water Wetter. George
  9. Stopped at the ACE last time we were in the UK. We were with a group of firefighters who all ride Harleys. Had a really great breakfast after getting off the Ferry from France. I hadn't thought about the ACE though till I read your post. Cheers!! George
  10. Had a great time yesterday at the Pilothouse BBQ in Clements Ca. Pretty small turnout of cars and trucks, seemed to be more people than there were older vehicles. I guess some just came in their everyday transportation. Met people from around a 200 miles radius of the Lodi area. The place was a little hard to find,( Damn Map quest) but we finally made it. Todd Fitch was there with his 33 Sedan, and there was a sweet 53 plymouth sedan with all the proper vintage speed goodies. And of course lets not forget the Dodge Pilothouses. There were about a half dozen in all shapes and phases of restoration. From totally completed to barn finds. One even had a hemi in it. It was a nice clean installation. There also was an old Dodge Fire Engine from the Calif. Dept. of Forestry. Being and Ex fireman myself, I thought that was kinda cool My wife was supposed to bring her camera, but it ended up sitting on the kitchen table when we left. ( It was my job to make sure we had everything). Any way, hope we can have some more of these functions in the area soon. George
  11. It was a great time, too bad there was not a better turnout. A lot of time and effort went into putting this event on. I'd like to thank our host and his family for their hospitality. Hopefully we will have another one next year. Thanks to all who participated. George
  12. I should be there around 11:30. Coming from Modesto. George
  13. Amen to that. Those are my thoughts exactly. I like the chebby because it was the 1st swap I ever saw in a P15 back in 56. It also was in the car when I bought it. I'm going to a pilothouse BBQ Sunday. Lets see how much flak I get from the purists. (LOL) George
  14. I cut a 1/2 coil from mine and it dropped it about 2 inches. But the coils I cut were already about 1 inch shorter than the coils that I took out. I would try to sneak up on it and cut no more than 1/2 to 3/4 of a coil. If it's not enough you can take them out again and cut somemore. The job is pretty easy and should only take a couple of hours from start to finish working alone. So if you have to do it twice it is no big deal. Do a search for coil cutting, it is in there somewhere. Good Luck. George
  15. 48 P15 coupe. Stock brakes running 350 SBC. No Problem stopping, but I am considering front discs.
  16. I'm planning on coming. Only live about 40 miles away. Hope I won't offend anybody with an all chebby P15. George
  17. John, I had the same problem with my cowl trim. I ended up making my own trim clips out of some scrap flat stainless steel. I then drilled and tapped the stainless off center (Top to Bottom) for a 10/24 stainless bolt and placed it in the original cowl opening and bolting it up. This in effect raised the cowl molding to where it had to be, I had to bend the lip on the moulding slightly to get the new clips in, but once the were in place it was easy to bend it back with a pair of vice grips. hope this helps. George
  18. I just replaced the stop light bulb (12V) with an 1156 Halogen 50 Watt. It is supposed to be for a back up light. I also applied chrome tape to the area under the glass. It appears to be much brighter now. Also for those with a 12 Volt system and running turn signals a 2357 bulb is a little brighter than the 1157. I'm thinking about a 20 LED light specifically for blue dot lenses. They are from Flip Flop LED. They have 19 red LEDS and a 1 blue LED in the center.George
  19. I've had em both. and not to offend the purists out there, My 350/350 combo is a lot more satisfying to me than the 6 ever was. Parts are easier to obtain, and usually a whole lot cheaper. You can buy a brand new crate motor a lot cheaper than rebuilding a 6 properly. It is a little tougher to work on due to the lack of room in the engine compartment, and cooling can be a problem when you run AC though. I know we are in the minority on this forum, but I can live with that . This forum is still the best of any forum Cars-Motorcycles- Beer that I belong to. George
  20. Thanks to all who replied. I think I'm going to try the reflective tape trick inside the bezels and see if that makes the lights any brighter. George
  21. Did the P15's have any kind of reflector or mirror type in the tail/stop lights? or did they just have the bulbs sticking in the hole and shining through the red glass? Thanks in advance. George
  22. We are going to have a full Irish seven course meal tonite. A six pack and a potato. Enjoy the day and "may you be in heaven before the devil knows you're dead". George
  23. Well, I finally got the front lowered on my 48 Plymouth coupe today. I bought a set of used springs from Mike's Moth last August and finally got around to cutting them and installing them. The R&R went like a piece of cake. I followed Normspeeds directions for removing the springs, and cut the coils with a DeWalt angle grinder with a cutting disc installed. The new used springs were already about in inch shorter the the springs that were in there, so I only took off 1/2 of coil. It dropped the front end so the front bumper is 10" off the ground. Just the look I was hoping to achieve. Sorry no Pictures, I'm technologically challenged. The whole operation working alone took about 1 1/2 hrs. After a test drive, it seems to corner better and it doesn't seem to wander anymore. I'm a happy camper. Thanks to Norm and all others on this forum for their contributions to our hobby. George
  24. I read somewhere, Maybe Tex Smith's book on Mopars, where you can tar the sheetmetal with Henrys roofing patch, and then use the multicolored carpet padding over that before laying down the finish carpet/ matting. Sounded like a good idea to me, because the tar will certainly help keep the moisture and rust away. Good Luck, George
  25. I saw this also, and scam was the 1st thing that came to my mind. Almost every scam car I have seen on the bay has had the license plate whited out and the buy it now price has always been under 10,000. My theory on this is if the price is over 10 the penalty if you get caught is much higher. Kinda like petty theft compared to grand theft. Plus this guy has no history selling anything. He bought one thing from a seller who is no longer an E Bay member. I would be exceptionally leery of this deal. Caveat Emptor. George
