  1. How about placing the wiper arm on and then drilling through and tapping the stripped piece. Then screw it on with a small (6/32-8/32) SS screw? Or just JB weld it?
  2. So whats the name of the wrecking yard?
  3. I was seriously considering putting 49 bumpers on my 48 coupe.I had a 49 rear bumper on my original 48 back in the late 50's, but now that I have seen the pictures front and rear I think I like the look of the stock 48 front and rears without the bumper guards. Also, does anybody have an idea where to obtain a couple of 48 rear lenses with Cateyes already installed? Or a source for plastic rear lenses rather than glass so cateyes can be be put in. I don't want to mess around with drilling the glass lenses.
  4. I was running a Maradyne 162 K (2700CFM) previously set to come on a 165, and this new setup seems to run cooler around town and in stop & go traffic. Sometimes on fairly short trips 10 -15 miles, the fan doesn't even come on, because it never gets warm enough to kick in. Of course that is with the AC off. I discovered last nite that the radiator was down about a quart and a half of coolant and they hadn't put any coolant in the overflow reservoir. This might cool it even more. Time will tell. George
  5. Don, The fan comes on whenever the AC is turned on. It has a trinary switch. The Temp cannot be changed from 195 -175. I thought it could, but I was mistaken. The Manufacturer recommends 195 for most V8 applications, so that is why we went with that setup. George
  6. No I haven't tried the 160 All the radiator gurus around here all say 180 is the way to go. They say these motors like to run on the warm side, but when the guage only goes to 212 and the needle is over 200, I get a little antsy. I'm OK with the fact that now I can drive it in the warmer weather with the AC on, but for over a thousand bucks, I guess I expected a little more. I forgot to add I'm running a Spal 3000CFM electric puller fan set to come on a 195 and off at 175. Without the air on she runs right where I would want her, but I was hoping for those same temps with the air on. Oh well, welcome to the world of Hot Rodding.
  7. I picked up the car yesterday. (P15 cpe 350SBC 350TH) with the new Walker Cobra installed. They had trouble installing the radiator because the AC condensor would not fit due to the horn bracket bar being in the way. They had to lower the condensor 2" in order to get the thing to fit. I don't know why Walker says it is a replacement unit. Drove the car around town and on the freeway in 90" weather for about an hour with AC on the whole time. Temp got as high as 200, but mostly stayed in mid 190's. The car is running 15-25 degrees cooler than it was with the recored stock unit, so I guess the money for the radiator was worth it. I was hoping for even cooler temps, but at least I can now drive the car on the hot summer days we have here in the Central Valley. Drove around town for about 10 miles in stop and go traffic with the AC off, and it never got over 180. Car has a 180 thermostat so that was good. I never realized how much heat those AC units create. Anyway, I thought that those of you running V 8s might be interested in this update.
  8. I'm running a 350SBC 350TH w air and have a recored stock radiator w 180 thermostat in my P 15 coupe. It runs on the warm side at 60-70MPH (Over 215) in 90+ weather with the air on, Seems OK without the air. I'm having a Walker Cobra ZAC 736-1with a built in AC condensor installed tomorrow morning. I am not going to hook the tranny cooler to the radiator as I am now running a separate cooler anyway. I was told by a guy at a Good Guys event that his P15 with the same setup with no AC rarely gets over 160-170 Hopefully the new radiator will do the trick. Not cheap, right around $900 with shipping + tax. Plus a couple hrs labor to install and hook up the air. I will post a review as soon as I get a chance to test it out. Only drawback that I can see to this whole operation however is the fact that I will not be able to remove the radiator without disconnecting and purging the air conditioner. This is something I can't do my self at this point since I don't know squat about AC. Every thing else on the car I am comfortable doing myself, as this is the 3rd P15 I have had, The last one being a body off restoration, but only 80 - 90% completed before I was made an offer I couldn't refuse.
  9. I think Les Schwab might carry NanKang. At least they used to, because I had them put some on a trailer I used to own. George
  10. Hey guys, I know most of you are running flatties, but I know some of you are running V8's I've got a P 15 SD coupe running a 350 SBC & 350 TH with Air conditioning. Stock Radiator has been recored, but it still gets up to about 215 -220 on warm days. It is time to bite the bullet. Any opinions re: the Walker Cobra vs an aluminum radiator. Any first hand info greatly appreciated. I'm going to post the same question over at the Hot Rodders BB, and see what we come up with. Thanks George
  11. Model T touring, and I think the girl is sitting on a Willy's Bantam
  12. James, what do you mean by lage block. I'm running 350 SBC with a 12 volts and push button starter if that helps. George
  13. FYI If any body is interested There is a pretty clean looking 48 P -15 coupe on E Bay for a buy it now price of 4500. Car is located in Illinois. George
  14. Tim, I have a one wire 100amp alternator on the350SBC in my 48 P15 and I have the same problem as far as the amp guage showing zero, and no increase in voltage checked at the batt. with a volt meter. If I goose it, the meter shows a charge and the voltage meter reads charging voltage. Once it shows on the amp meter it will run fine all day until I turn it off, then the whole process starts over. Do all one wire alternators operate this way? What is a tickler? And if I add one will it solve my problem? Or should I suspect a bad alternator.
  15. Well thats the way mine are oriented also, Which is why I asked the question. I wasn't sure if if the guards or the bumper bolts were installed in correctly. But I guess they are done properly unless someone else on the forum corrects us.
  16. Does any one know the correct orientation of the bumper bolts on a 48 P15. Since they are oval shaped, are they supposed to be up and down or sideways?
  17. I hope this works, here is a picture of of my P 15. I have since dropped the front by about 2 inches. I found that it had spring spacers in the front springs. I removed them and I am pleased with the stance now. Took it on its 1st 50 mile RT cruise and it performed flawlessly. I was a little concerned about eng temp with my old coupe since I was running basically the same setup, but this stayed right around 180 -190 on and 80 degree day." Very cool" (no pun intended) George
  18. Thanks for the tip on the springs. I'd love to post a picture, but I can't seem to figure it out. Apparently my file size exceeds the limit. I have a Mac. I tried reducing the picture size but that apparently doesn't work either. George
  19. Thanks for the welcome Norm, I'm in the Central Valley of Calif. (Modesto). I've read quite a few of your posts, esp. the ones on front ends. IE Disc Brakes and dropped spindles. The front of my coupe sits just a little too high for my satisfaction. Thinking about either going with 14" front wheels of dropping the spindles. I'd like to get it 1-2" lower in the front, without cutting coils if possible. I've been drooling over 48 Plymouths for over 50yrs. After about a 10 yr search, finally found the one I wanted. Although I was looking at the Red Convert out of Utah on EBay last month, but it was just a little too pricey.
  20. Hi To all, I Just joined the forum, but have been lurking for quite a while. Finally attained car of my dreams, 48 P15 Sp.deluxe coupe for the 3rd time. This one is all done. (well almost) if you know what I mean. I guess they are never all done. I know you purist's might cringe, but it is totally stock and original inside and out, with a SBC TH350 and Charger rearend. I performed the same swap about 10 yrs ago on another 48 coupe, but the body was so bad, I knew it would never be my dream car so I got rid of it along with 2 other compleate parts cars. ( Kicking myself now on that.) Any way I just wanted to say hi, and am looking forward to learning and sharing what little bit of knowledge I have with all, Thanks George (Homebrewer)
