  1. Chet, It is running great. Your tip on starting procedure has proven to be invaluable. Thank you very much. Drove it to the office this morning. Saturday I will drive it in the local Christmas parade and then will drop the transmission to fix the O/D. Will you be keeping the P15 in Delaware or will you bring it to Virginia? Looking forward to seeing it. Jim Yergin
  2. When I was a teenager, my dad had a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible that he used to drive back and forth from the commuter train station. We installed an 8 track under the dash (this was in the early 70's). While parked at the train station someone slit the top and stole the 8 track. My dad got another 8track and we built it solidly into the glove compartment. The next time, rather than taking the 8 track, the thief took the entire car. It was found a couple of weeks later in the neighboring town completely stripped. Jim Yergin
  3. Count me in. Jim Yergin
  4. Congratulations. Quite an accomplishment. Glad to hear everything went well. Jim Yergin
  5. On my '41, I was able to reach the clock mounting studs by removing the glove box liner and going in from the side. Jim Yergin
  6. My homemade pressure sandblaster. Jim Yergin
  7. Welcome to the forum. Looks like a great find. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to more as you work on the car. Jim Yergin
  8. Al, I know you have an R7 and not an R10 but the Borg Warner R10 manual that can be downloaded from the Downloads page on the P15D24 site, states that when the transmission will not drive the car unless the O/D is locked out, it may indicate that there is a broken clutch roller, the roller cage is stuck or the clutch cam is worn. Your intermittent problem of sudden engagement might be caused not by a totally stuck roller cage but by a sticking roller cage that eventually gets unstuck and engages the drive. Just a thought. Jim Yergin
  9. Fred, I have to say the pictures of your car are inspiring but as we sit here in Virginia with what is probably our last near 70' day of the year, the weather shown in the pictures is a depressing reminder of what is coming. Can you tell I am not a fan of winter? Jim Yergin
  10. Sounds like fun. Will be looking forward to an update on your return. Be safe and have a great time. Jim Yergin
  11. Drove my '41 to work this morning. Have now driven 500 miles since the second engine re-build. Time for the first oil change. The car is now running great. Based on postings in this forum, last night I switched out the Champion spark plugs and replaced them with Auto-Lite 306's. The car seems to run better and the high speed miss I had is gone. Will be driving the car in the local Christmas parade on December 4 and then will lay up the car and remove the overdrive transmission to see what I did wrong when I last re-assembled it. These cars sure are fun when they are running right. Jim Yergin
  12. Rodney, Glad to hear you had a good time. I am sorry I couldn't join you. I ended up having to go into the office and work. Our local woodie club visited the place about 15 years ago. Glad to see it is still in operation. Thanks for posting the pictures. You mentioned Luray Caverns, have you been to the car musuem there? It is quite a collection. Jim Yergin
  13. Chet, Actually, I think flooding may have been my problem. Once I got it home it started right up and has done so every time since then. Thanks for the tip about the correct starting procedure. I too was always pumping it several times before starting. The problem with holding the pedal half-way down is that my car has a foot starter. It can get a little awkward with the left foot on the gas pedal. Maybe I can just use the hand throttle for the same result. Jim Yergin
  14. Rodney, What time will you be there? Jim Yergin
  15. Wow, that is impressive. I really like your car. Looks great, especially after seeing what you started with. Jim Yergin
  16. Drove the car into town yesterday evening to pickup some things at my office. Came out and it would not start. Had spark but even with starter fluid would not start. Ended up towing it home (tow bar was good investment). Got it into the garage and will investigate the problem. So much for the confidence level. Looks like a trip to Tennessee is not in the near future. Hopefully one to Alexandria is more likely. The O/D is this winter's project. Would have been nice to have had a working O/D on Saturday for the 100 mile round trip. Carls49, I went right by Brandy Station on Route 15. We'll have to catch up one of these days. Jim Yergin
  17. Steeplechase races are popular in this part of Virginia. Every year on the first Saturday in November, there is a big race at Montpelier, Virginia, James Madison's estate. Tailgating is a big part of the day so what better car to take than my 1941 Plymouth wagon. Montpelier is about 50 miles from my home and the car ran great without any problems. It was a beautiful day. We had a great time and I received many compliments on the car. Jim Yergin
  18. Charlie, Nice article in the November Woodie Times. Congratulations. Jim Yergin
  19. I would check the gear selector rod. It is the threaded rod. I had a similar problem in that mine would not shift into reverse or first. The adjustment on the selector rod was too lose and would not shift the selector inside the transmission into the reverse/first quadrant. Maybe yours is too tight and not allowing the selector to go into the second/third position inside the transmission. Jim Yergin
  20. Since I am the one who installed it, it is not only possible but also probable. Jim Yergin
  21. I know there have been a couple of threads recently with overdirve questions. Rather than horn in on those I thought I would post my own question. When I had my engine out to rebuild I also removed the R10 overdrive transmission and replaced the balk ring with an NOS replacement. Now that it is back in the car, the overdrive will not engage. I ran through the trouble shooting procedure in the Borg Warner manual. The controls all check out OK except the solenoid. With the solenoid removed, the plunger engages smartly when the solenoid is powered. However, when installed in the transmission, the plunger "bounces" in and out repeatedly. I am assuming that I re-assembled the parts incorrectly and that the pawl is not able to move into the blocker ring opening. I tried the procedure in the manual about pulling back the solenoid and turning the driveshaft to line up the blocker ring. No difference. I did read in the Chrylser overdrive pamphlet that the balk ring must be installed with the embossed side in a certain direction or else it will not work correctly. I do not remember how I installed it so I figure I will be removing the transmission this winter to fix it. Before I do, does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks. Jim Yergin
  22. Nice pictures. Nice car. Jim Yergin
  23. Right next to a locked barn in Portugal? Jim Yergin
  24. Tom, Looks great. Glad that the manifolds worked. Certainly better than just sitting in my garage. I had to fabricate my own fasteners for the trim on my '41. Been having fun driving mine now that it is back on the road after the second engine re-build. Seems to be running better the second time around -"knock wood" (fortunately that is easy enough to do in my woodie). Jim Yergin
