  1. I switched to 12 volt after rebuilding my 218....6 volt did not have enought to crank the new engine fast enough to start. Changed all the bulbs and that was it. all the 6 volt motors are running on 12 volt. Even the O/D is still the 6 volt stuff....never looked back, happy I made the change. Now I can put in a modern radio and 12 volt wipers.....1941 Plymouth P12 Special Deluxe Coupe....
  2. Didn't know it had one.....mine must be missing too.....will check my parts book....
  3. Hank............Thank you.....will check my spare and count the splines
  4. That is just what I am looking for......now to find one here and make it fit..... Thank you
  5. Hank.....the out put from the transmission where the driveshaft attaches..
  6. Hank....do you have a part number for the output flange on your transmission....just what I am looking for, for my 41 plymouth....
  7. Usually up here in British Columbia we get set to go south for the winter to soak up the sun....we are getting the same weather system here....so wet, water laying everywhere. Fortunatly for us this is very close to normal, unfortunatly it is not normal for southern California. Hope it dries out soon.
  8. Dennis....sorry about your loss...at such a time of year.....
  9. Here is a site to identify your engine http://www.t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/otherengines.php your engine is from a power wagon wdx to k6 w300 1946 to 1957 your engine may have been built with rubber rear seal, because of the spread in the years the engine was used.
  10. I found no differences with the head....as for the cam I could find no difference.....timing was not a problem,,,,as for the real seal, yours may have been upgraded to the rubber seal....I used the Graphite seal as the crank still was knurled for graphite. I should have polished the knurls out and used the rubber, so far no leaks. The only problem I ran into was the engine was tight to turn over with the graphite seal, 12 volt into a 6 volt starter cured that...now the whole car is 12v. Franikie47...a generic block to me is a the same long block that is used in a series of applications. The difference is what is bolted on to the block...ie....manifolds, starter, flywheel housing and such.. That is the beauty of these engines...so versitile.
  11. My engine is from a welder early 50's vintage.....from what i can see you are dealing with a generic long block and bolting on items to make it fit your application.
  12. I do not have that kind of money...here is what i did.....Bought bolt on chrome fins....the guy put hard flat washers under the head bolts and welded to them 1/8 X 1/2 flat bar and then had it chromed....best $150.00 I spent...if i could reduce my pics I would put one on...I'll keep trying....if you want a large pic I will e-mail one to you.
  13. The 3:55 will make a difference. I am running 3:91....sure like my OD
  14. One has to remember you are only working with an engine that has no more then 100HP. A 10 to 15% increase in power would not really be noticed. My 218 has .040 pistons, .040 shaved off the head, twin B&B's on an Offy manifold and is nice and tight. (fresh rebuild) I still have single exhaust and most likely will remain so. I run with a bunch of V8's in all sorts of rods. Have no problem legally keeping up with them. Don....how fast is your engine running at 70mph before you shift to overdrive? I get nervous at 55mph...I am in O/D at 40....have been told RPM is the killer of these engines.
  15. I recently put dual BB's on my 218. New Offy manifold and swap meet carbs which I rebuilt. I have found the car much better to drive. So much more bottom end torque. Clutch chatter is gone. You do not need progessive linkage (my opinion). You only are dealing with 97 HP, 100 at best. Good luck with yours..
  16. I would say most likely the tire size is to wide...same problem with my 41.... I am running 205-75-15....
  17. Vintage power wagons have los of parts for 218 and 230 engines.....reasonable pricing. If you are in Western Canada Lordco is great. Our macine shop was way out on his prices......
  18. Nice looking car....I have a 41 coupe....same color......great cars.
