"You got 4 out of 4. Average is 3.6 out of 4 (1606996 players). You got 100% (48 right out of 48). The average score is 73%" the groups of four photos made this way too easy. taking a single picture at a time would have made for instance the hood ornaments much more challenging to identify, even if I've seen all these so many times. Generally speaking, it is easy to remember things you are genuinely interested. Vice versa; try to remember things you are not interested at all... impossible.

House windows or car windows? ...house windows would be "OT"... ... you almost got me interested (fooled?)

A time machine would indeed be a nice business advantage for "import of hobby cars"... see at the end of the rainbow p.s. loads of interesting hi-quality photos in these pages - Thanks for sharing!

Should the truck and car forums become one and the same?
Uncle-Pekka replied to Don Coatney's topic in P15-D24 Forum
As many others, I also voted "NO", just because the forum is the best of the net in the way it is as it is... Also, because I am not especially interested in trucks or pickups. However, I belive the people do make the forum waht it is and the truck people are as fine fellows as the car people, thus I do belive the forum in it self would be just as good, only the subjects would be a bit more mixed and harder to find(?). In case combining the forums would help by cutting costs - I would vote "YES" The important thing is to keep this fine site going STRONG. /Pekka -
Well have to be more precise on my words (even if you all surely understood what I meant): - It's nice to receive n.o.s. steel parts, providing they were properly stored - BUT it really sucks to get dryed old rubber or any other sealings (as Fred got his wiper blades and I once got a lip seal - totally useless) Then again, I can imagine how it is to run a spares inventory for 40's cars: You're expected to carry an comprehensive selection of items, but some you get to sell once every third year. What do you do to items that have been sitting on the self for 60 yrs - Throw away, cancel once & for all?

Looks more like Fiat 600, the next bigger brother (Well, another 100cc did not make much difference...) It is definitely a Fiat, thus your point proven. p.s. I misunderstood your header line and rushed to see from a mirror to check would it be applied to me as well... ...nope.

There is no point taking the drive shaft apart when towing a car equipped with manual transmission. When the lever is on neutral the transmission rolls along just fine. It is totally different ball game to hydraulic operated automatic. Fluid drive is just two turbine blades close to each other in oil filled chamber. When the gear is on neutral and engine shut down, neither of the blades does not even turn. If they would turn, the situation would be exactly same as when you drive the car on it's own power.

I have received some NOS parts from A.B. The woven hood weather stripping on the top of fire wall for instance was definetely n.o.stock. Also set of brake shoes linings came in a torn 40's original box. Some dash board light bulbs came in 50's box also. In my opinion n.o.s. is not necessarily good thing when spare parts are considered... Yet I have to say that I am in general satisfied with the parts and expertise of A.B. - I know many do not like him due his busy & straight forward way of handling customer calls. Neverthless Andy never let me down as Roberts have done: Roberts web page listed FALSE description & product code for an expensive wind shield rubber. When I received the sealing and reported it false, he refused all responsibility. I had to pay in full for another part and overseas freight. on top of that my car waited at work shop an extra fortnight due this. is only explanation was that he deals no returns for overseas shippings. Never will deal with Roberts any more.

Folks, My experience: I once had to drive the D24 180miles without fan blades. It was not hot weather (but warm, +20...25 Celsius). I drove 50...55mph on highway most of the trip with no engine heat issue, very same stable temp as with the blades. However, when I had to stop in red lights, the temp begun to raise immediately. In speed again, it cooled down. Thus proven, that the fan works for cooling at very slow speed or stop situations.

I agree. Personally, I'd settle with two proper sluts and a driveable '41 Chrysler straight eight (not for the job, but to enjoy ever after) However, this turns out an evil circle: When I think of the sluts and the chrysler, I'am no longer depressed thus not qualified for the job, thus no reward either...

That was a sad one... Now I am depressed too... p.s. Did you signed up?

Super! Fred, You've had really good time past weekend, eh? Do not feel bad for the result against the hot rod ford - taken in account the difference in weight you fight surprisingly well what we could see by the video. I recall I first learned of this Finsterwalde Iron Feast from you an year ago. Some other year I would really like to come there just to watch the races. However the journey would need to be done by my D24 - Do they even allow visitors in modern cars? The event is really cool, insisting in pre 59 cars only - Well done! Cheers, Pekka

Mark, As you see in my member profile, I am currently living in Jyväskylä, central Finland. However, I will most probably spend the Christmas in Kokkola, west coast, where all my & my wife's family are still living. Kokkola is 100 miles south from Raahe. Also my Dodge is currently in Kokkola as I have been preparing for a paint job using my fathers large garage/work shop. It would be really great to meet you during the holidays! Be sure to let me know if you come up North. Br., Pekka

I am glad to see the lively conversation that my (stupid) question aroused! I picked up two most important reasonings: 1) THE SOUND 2) "The manifold split is an old school way" ...of souping up the 230 Mark surprised me with his perfect finnish language and also the product by "Red's headers", which makes sense also performance vice. I need to consider seriously the twin exhaust system for by baby as well...
-
This may be a stupid question, but I need to ask because I do not know/understand the reason why the factory manifolds are being split to two? I understand the reason for pipe headers and custom made manifolds such as Fentons is improved "breathing" through better flow in smooth and larger channels. However, by splitting a factory manifold you still end up with original size and square corners - Is there some advantange I missed to understand? Can one measure the improved performance in case there is any? Sincerely, Unkka-Pekka

On Sunday I watched the old 40's Lana Turner movie "The Postman always rings twice" - Lots of early 40's cars... 1942 DeSoto was the most impressive. There was also Plymouth or Chrysler of the same year. Good movie too, even if I like the 80's version with Jessica Lange & Jack Nicholson better. Earlier in summer they ran "Driving Miss Daisy" on local TV. In the beginning there was a 1948 Chrysler 4D Sedan, which ended the driving career of Ms. Daisy herself... Lots of memorable cars in this fine movie as well. Always enjoy to see vintage cars in a good movie.

Thanks for sharing the fine pictures! I like the looks of this coupe, does anyone know what there is under the hood? -
I am planning 2" blocks for my rear axle, just boxed beams. Your 2 3/4" do look very good - might have to look for taller size beam for myself... Have a great weekend in Joplin & Good luck for your return trip as well. /Pekka

Congratulations for the trip ran well. I got curious and checked your profile pictures: You have installed a 230 in a P15 Club Coupe, right. The Coupe looks very good, low stance. By which means you have lowered her? - blocks in rear?, what about front axle? P.s. Let us know how do you do the 1/4 mile at the Drags... Short trip, big hurry...

...con't'd... Does anybody have a pair of R16 rims to spare?
-
I am currently running on 215/75 R15 tires. After finding out the issues in changing the rear ratio I need to pay a second thought also to the tire size. I noticed 235/75 R16 would run almost 8% faster at the same shaft speed. 235/85 R16 would be almost 14% faster, almost the same effect as changing 4.1 rear to 3.54:1... The question is: How wide a tire can be mounted on 1946-47 R16 rim? I suppose there would be enough space for 235/85 R16 in the D24 rear wheel well? What are the rim widths of the D24 R15 and R16 rims?
-
Hi again, I have not found rear end parts here in Finland. There was some "NOS" 3.54:1 gearwheel & pinion for sale here at P15-D24 forum some weeks ago (DeSoto?). I suppose that set will neither fit in my 4.1:1 third member frame? My buddy just bought a chevy which is waiting to be shipped to Finland. I'll ask him if it would be OK to take these parts along in the container. If that's a go, would the 3.73:1 3rd member be available by you, Doug? Pls send me PM to let me know the price etc... /Pekka

Please some one who knows source for the fuel pump diaphragm & also for carburetor acceleration pump diaphragm - Let us know. I will buy spare ones just in case. Three reasons: 1) In Europe you cannot get these anywhere 2) Properly stored they do not deteriorate on self 3) Modern fuels are bad for the diaphragms, they slowly get brittle. Also several month periods unused for every winter are bad: In some case fuel evaporates away leaving diaphragm dry, which is not good either.
