Reupholstering time- how much will I need?
BobT-47P15 replied to 40P10touring sedan's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I got a solid color maroon vinyl. But, I think I'll change gears and use cloth or cloth/vinyl combo. Looking for a color and style I like, but not looking real hard. -
I'm too young I guess- how to fix a flat tire!
BobT-47P15 replied to 40P10touring sedan's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I think they are right about finding a truck shop. A few years ago I took a tube tire to a Firestone store and they had to discuss how to repair the tube among themselves . One brave soul went on to do the job and it held OK. I usually use a small area chain store - nowhere near so big as the big boys. They still know their stuff. -

If I recall correctly, the upholstry supply house I bought some vinyl from for the convertible sold me 17 yards. Only has two doors, but has side panels in the back seat area. I dont know how much is really neded as I have not used it yet. -
I know the 54 Plymouth I had for a while had that generator/pump item.

What's the deal with rocker moldings/wheel skirts?
BobT-47P15 replied to FlyingDutchman's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Fender skirts were aftermarket items back then. I don't know if the dealers had them, or they came from an outside source like Foxcraft. They turn up on ebay sometimes, but can be pricey. -
I've noticed that krinkle thing with everyday old spraypaint as well as Krylon. Seems like it didn't do that years ago....they must have changed the formula in the last several years.

Not much grass to cut, but a whole lot of rocks to pick. Eventually the contractor will use his landscape machine which, I think, gets rocks and levels the dirt, etc. Then, we will get sod for the front and around to the side a bit. Grass seed for the back yard. Dale has put one coat of yellow paint on the car, but progress has slowed since he began working at his local O'Reilly Auto store. He wants to get it done by time for that Mopar gathering in K C this summer. If he doesn't, we'll just attend anyway.

How are your neighbors doing? Are some not coming back? Ed....our nearest neighbors around us are now built back. A lot of homes in the subdivision have been repaired and rebuilt. However, some have opted to sell and do other things. At least 3 new homes are spec houses from two different builders. ---------------------------------------------------------------- J Harold.......Good to hear that you're moving back. That's a good looking house. My wife and I want a ranch for our next place. How many square feet is yours? -----1600 to 1700 sq feet. Haven't tried to measure yet. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Kirk.........Now, since you will be getting good and settled by time for the HAMB drags, I would suggest you christen the place with a big ol BBQ and Kegger. I'm sure you could find a few takers floating around the Holiday Inn parking lot. Yeah, I bet there would be a few (dozen) takers on that. Something to consider. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul F........ Is that BRICK that I see? Haven't seen a new house made of brick for years. It's all stucco on the West coast. The house looks great, should be very enjoyable to live in. Have a great summer. Yes.....that is brick, with a section in the middle of "stacked" stone, artificial stone made locally. Brick if pretty common here, always has been. Today's home building trends seem to include front treatments that include brick, stone and stucco. The sides and rear of the house are vinyl siding. Thanks for the good wishes guys.....much appreciated. We stayed there Friday night for the first time. Seems like we were staying in some other place as things are all laid out different, different flooring and such. Will be making a few additional trips with the Caravan to bring up assorted "stuff" of the house....plus the two cats. The contractor says he may start on the detached garage in the next month or so. Just wanted him to take time to finish up stuff in the house like door knobs and other smaller items before beginning that.
-
Yeah....real close Ed......the tornado occurred on May 22 of last year. The house isn't completely done yet, but it's down to smaller things. They can come in and do those after we are there.

The movers are here today to take some of the stuff we have accumulated while living here in Anderson, MO to our new house in Joplin. They will get the biggest stuff, the rest will be taken in the Caravan over several trips. So, the fun begins. The new house.........

How many Plymouths? Look sharp I think I see 5
BobT-47P15 replied to greg g's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I could find 4 Plymouths. And also, 3 Pontiacs. -
I think they were doing the traditional "hot rod" red wheels thing. (I agree - matching would be better.)

....on this past Saturday. Were probably 200 to 300 bidders there. The owner had added several more cars, somewhere from 150 to 200 were on hand. We had company so I could not get to the sale by the 10 a.m. start time. Was more like 11:30 when I got there, and could only stay for an hour or so due to having a music job at 3 in the afternoon back in Joplin. One added row contained several older Corvettes and some Cadillacs, plus a model T touring car. The T sold for $5000...... This 63 Studebaker Hawk went for $2100. And......this 49 two seat Plym coupe went for $900. Met and visited with the buyer who is from the area and plans to make it a "Sunday driver". The car was complete with floorboards that may not prove to be too bad, and very good stainless trim. The engine was complete and turned by hand. Inside the car was a Fulton type visor in the back seat.....in the trunk a radio grille with radio, plus assorted coffee cans with small parts including visor brackets. I wrote down the name of the forum for the man and invited him to check it out. My personal favorite, this 55 Chrysler which could be pretty much cleaned up and used (may or may not run) went to a new home in Kansas City for $1100. Heard some other prices in the background which seemed reasonable....many were in the hundreds (as opposed to thousands). Since this was not all the cars in the collection......there will probably be another sale sometime. Don't know if there are any other old Mopars among them, but will be interesting to see.

Do auto supply stores not carry that style any more?? Or maybe a farm supply? The ones I have are n o s purchased on ebay so I haven't been out shopping around. Here's the box my clamps came in..........
-
Hi Joel. Welcome. Nice Dodge you got there. Ebay often has parts.....have gotten more expensive lately, but sometimes you just have to pay if that's the only source. Certain parts for these cars can still be purchased at the average auto supply store......carb rebuild kits, and other small items. Where are you located? There is a reference section you can get to from the forum headings that talks about both Plymouth and Dodge things. Link to the "links directory"...... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/links/index.php

Regarding use of radial tires on older rims
BobT-47P15 replied to bamfordsgarage's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I used some radials on my 15" 1955 Chrysler wire wheels......with no problems. I did, however, use radial tubes in them since I don't know how airtight the rims are. Have since replaced them with bias ply wide whites which look good, but don't handle as well as the radials. -
A batch of old cars coming up for sale in MO.....
BobT-47P15 replied to BobT-47P15's topic in P15-D24 Forum
....on this past Saturday. Were probably 200 to 300 bidders there. The owner had added several more cars, somewhere from 150 to 200 were on hand. Since this original post had a lot of pics that make it slow to load for some people, I did another new post called "the old car sale has now been held." -
1949 Dodge Coronet barn find on Ebay - ending 04/29/2012
BobT-47P15 replied to Desotodav's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Nice old Dodge, alright. If anyone is working on restoring a similar model, I would suggest cutting and pasting the ebay pictures to another place.....save as photo reference material since it is so original. The pics will disappear from ebay in a few days, but you can put them in your "watch" section to save them for a while. -
Haven't painted my bus. coupe yet. The convert needs to be re-done as my paint work wasn't the best.

I have a friend who drives a 4 cyl pickup.....Mazda I think it is. Same deal........definite lack of power......has to shift a lot at times....but it gets good gas mileage. Glad it's his and not mine. I have two cats -- but neither has learned how to operate the remote control yet. They have tried to open doors, though. (I drank their beer when they were asleep.)

Ed, you can get a resin plastic coupe model (unpainted) on ebay for about $35. I looked just now, but the seller....Miteymouse.....is not currently offering anything. I think he has both business & club coupe. Found a page for R & R models....here's a link...............http://www.resinrealm.net/GALLERIES/RRGallery/index.html

Those springs may have been individually wrapped in burlap, too. They are on the '47 anyway. Not sure it's really needed nowadays, and mine has been disintigrating over the years. Every time I remove the seat bottom, there is a burlap shower.

I don't really remember if I found any small items in the convertible or not, but there was a batch of stainless trim in the trunk when I bought it. The seller said "the trim is in the trunk". I pulled it out when I got home and found it was NOT for a Plymouth, but perhaps a Chevy of about the same vintage. In the 54 Plymouth I bought about 3 years ago, there were in the ashtray some change, some Vess soda pop bottle caps, and an old ticket to the movie theater in Joplin. In the trunk was a cassette tape of Simon and Garfunkle.............
