Information from Allen and David and their diagrams are now up on the DPETCA website.
-
Awesome! There's nothing to match the feeling.
-
Dave Erb sent me his illustrations for making the wiring harness and I am getting them ready to post on the web, along with his basic instructions. I've asked Allen to send me what info he has and his pictures. I'll put it all together and post it on the DPETCA website. I'll let you know as soon as it's ready - probably by this weekend. Then it will be all together in one location for everyone to access when they need it.
-
How about I send you an envelope and stamp. I'll scan the pages in and post them on the DPETCA website so they are there permanently for any one who needs them to download them. Thanks for doing this kind of work guys.

Hey Guys, Can we set up a tentative date for the spring time and give an open invite to those in the area to join us? A few of us could meet at Jim's place in Elk Grove and we'd pickup a few others in Sutter's Creek or elsewhere along the way. I think Reg's garage is big enough to hold us. Right Reg?

The email just came to me. I thought I would share it here on the forum and if any of you can help Greg in this project or parts that he needs then contact him. His email is below. --------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I am with the Hancock Fire Co. in Hancock Maryland. We recently bought back our old 1951 Dodge Fire Truck which we sold about 15 years ago. We are in the begining the process of restoration. We sent the Master Cylinder away and it has been lost. I am hoping someone can point me to where parts may be available. We will need several things, including the front Crome Grille. Attached is a photo of it now. Thank you for your time. Greg Yost Dep. Chief Hancock Fire Co. 3 Fulton St. Hancock Md. 21750 301-678-5726 gyost73@hotmail.com

The vibrator converts the DC (direct current) from your battery to an AC (alternating current) so that the radio can step up the voltage necessary for use with the tubes. As already stated in the responses, your radio needs about 350-450 volts to operate correctly with tubes. The original vibrators were mechanical - They "vibrated" hundreds of times per second in order to make the AC. You can actually hear them working as they give out a hummm. But we all know mechanical devices wear out over time . The electronic vibrator will accomplish the same thing, but it uses solid state circuits to do it. Nothing mechanical to wear out.

I think the origin of this was a forum on hotrodders.com. Here's the forum article: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1 And here's a picture of the results. Guy says he did it with foam paint rollers.

There's a place called Rod Doors that supplies materials for making your own door panels (and should work for headliners as well). They sell ABS plasic in sheets for doing this. Here's an example: http://www.roddoors.com/pages/dp-uni.html They seem a bit pricey to me. So, I look at Tap Plastics and they sell ABS plastic in sheets as well. 2X4ft sheet is $16 - 64 depending on the thickness desired. The nice thing about ABS is that you can glue it together easily to make bigger pieces. They also have PVC sheets for about the same price. Shipping can add up, but we have a Tap plastics right here in town so that would work for me. Looks like they're mainly on the west coast, but you might have a similar platics store around. Here's some links if interested: http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=335& http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=343&

I think this is about as close as I will ever get to owning a ute - a picture of one. The pictures are being sold by a farmer trying to keep his livestock alive during the drought. You might want to check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BUY-A-FARM-PICTURE-TO-HELP-FEED-THE-SHEEP-IN-DROUGHT_W0QQitemZ270084098236QQihZ017QQcategoryZ101894QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'll look at home tonight and see if I can find a pic of a pilothouse crew cab. I know someone was working on one. In the mean time here's a '47. http://dodgepilothouseclub.org/dodge/1947_dodge_clubcab/imgcol/index.htm

Had some time last night so I sorted through a collection of my truck pictures and created a collage of the different ways in which people have modified the front end grills of their trucks. Thought it would be interesting to put them all together in one place. These are mainly from later model pilot-house's. The link is at bottom of the gallery page. See which one you like. http://dodgepilothouseclub.org/dodge/dodge.htm

How do I install 1/4 windows?
Bob_Koch replied to Allan Parkhurst's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Allan, who did you get the rubber from? That seems to make a big difference. -
I doubt I would ever have the money to buy one of these trucks in all reality, but I like to dream. I think the pilothouse ute's are some of the best looking trucks around. I really don't care if it's been modified along as it was done to keep the overall integrity intact. The fact that it had a 340 was surprising and I'm sure would give quite a thrilling ride. 340's aren't that easy to come by here in the states either. By the way Reg - saw in the P15 forum the news of the wonderful car you just bought. What a terrific find. It should be an exciting weekend when that arrives. Good for you. Let us all know when we can come up for a ride around town in your new car. I'll bring the beer (oops, sorry, I meant vodka).

How do I install 1/4 windows?
Bob_Koch replied to Allan Parkhurst's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I've heard discussion as to which side of the truck you should start on but not sure what the final answer was. Do you start with the rubber on the outside and work it in? or visa-versa? -
An announcement for the next DPETCA online chat session has been posted in announcement section. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20 Hope you can join us.

We have scheduled a chat session for This Sunday. I have an important topic that I would like to start the new year off with and that is the idea of holding our first National Pilot-House Truck Convention. The when's, where's and how's will all need to be discussed. I thought this would be a great time to get the conversation going on this. As always, you are welcome to bring your own truck conversations as well. Tell us what problems you're having, what parts you need or anything else. Date: Last Sunday of the Month - January 28th Time: 5PM - PST That's: 6PM-MST That's: 7PM-CST That's 8PM - EST Where: DPETCA Website We will again be using the chat page on the DPETCA website as it seemed to work well last time. I thought this was awful:) cute. Could easily be done with our trucks as well to create a beer wagon. I bet the cooler could even hold a bottle or two of VaaKaaa. For whoever drinks that.

Thanks for the pictures. Boy, lots of work ahead, but is that ever going to be beautiful when it's done.

In them 'ol days that's all we had wher' I grew up. Yep. Anythang more than that was for sissy's. Didn't hav a cab on that 'ol truck for 40's yars. - OK - good to hear you're making progress. Any progress in this winter is goood. Motor looks good

Good to see that he kept the truck mopar. The dart front end was not easy to install because he used the straight torsion bars typical of that era. Nice to see he kept the outside looking so nice with some modern updates. Wish he had been proud enough of the engine to paint it as well.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I wasn't familiar with this magazine so I signed up for a trial subscription. Hopefully I'll get the February issue.
