  1. Wow...that inside shot looks like something similar to looking inside the Titanic under water.
  2. Thanks, Shel. When I saw Norm and Tim's replies I figured there was no hope...LOL!
  3. After an endless and hopeless search for hood springs for my P15, I found some off of a '51 Chrysler at a junk yard today. They are the same length in size, but a little fatter. They look just like the P15 springs, but just a 1/4 of an inch wider. Also, i stuck one in where it will be going and it looks like they'll clear, but I have no idea how they go on. Any tricks to this and what to watch out for while installing them.
  4. Those are great, James! Thanks!
  5. Lou...I don't know what fluid he put in there. Norm...I only use the OD around town it there are some long gaps between stops and traffic isn't heavy. Mostly use it on the freeway, though. I know you mention about just getting used to and living with it, but if I'm getting a sign that something's wrong, I'd like to address the problem to the mechanic so that something doesn't happen later on....like the OD going out on the road to Vegas...LOL! James...let me bring that to the attention of the mechanic and see what he says. Thanks for that.
  6. Just wanted to ask here if when the overdrive kicks in is it normal for it to sometimes kick in with a clunk that is kind of like when you put a car with auto trans in reverse and kind if jerks when it finally kicks in. This seems to happen when I use the overdrive in either 2nd or 3rd. I usually try reving up to about 50 mph before letting off the gas and then accelerating again. Sometimes it shifts over smoothly with a slight nudge and sometimes it shifts roughly with a clunk that can be felt pretty well. There's even times it doesn't engauge and I have to let off the gas and accelerate again before it will engauge. Is this a sign that it's going out? Remember...the mechanic didn't rebuild the overdrive...he just cleaned it, the solenoid and the govenor out and reinstalled them. He told me that the trans had no signs that it was bad.
  7. Ok...I'll give that a shot, too
  8. Thanks, Shel. I'm going to take them off and see. Where do you get new arms, if that may be the case?
  9. "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigatette" was a national #1 hit in 1947. I've played it in my '47 and it liked it...it just seems to run better with that music playing in it.
  10. Yeah, I got it. Thanks!
  11. Getting ready here for winter and was testing the wipers out. The arms I have on now seem to have no tension to keep the blade pressed onto the windshield. They lay on it pretty loosely. Is there a way to tighten the arms so that there is more tension or is this a sign of worn out tension springs?
  12. ...maybe if it had been NOS, but this is used. Some of those guys on Ebay think they are selling gold by they way they price things. That's okay...they will soon find out that no one is going to pay their price.
  13. ...into a few pieces. Luckily the hood was just closed when it happened. Where can I get new hood springs for the P15?
  14. No, the "C" clips are long gone.
  15. Norm...this Sunday I have a guy, who is a locksmith, taking a stab at it. He's rekeying my ignition, doors and trunk locks. He seems to think it will be easy, so I'll see what he can do. If it doesn't work, we'll give it another try.
  16. They weren't pulled because they didn't come out, so they painted around them, but you can't tell.
  17. Have a question about attaching the cowl moulding on the driver's side....how do you do it? I can hardly get my hand up in through the inside of the fender to tighten the nut on one of the moulding clips in through the hole, but the other hole forget it. Is there a trick to this?
  18. I have a slight problem with getting the door lock out of the door on the driver's side. The little set screw that holds it in place is stripped and just turns. Norm (Normspeed) tried to drill it out, but the drill didn't even make a dent into the screw, and he used a good bit. What can I do to get this thing out. I have the correct door lock ready to put in, but this is hindering things.
  19. Ha...my Mom used to tell me that back in the 50's her dad used to make sure that any guy she went out with didn't have a Nash. Does anyone here have an idea why?
  20. I was curious to know if today's bias ply WWW's are prone to have blowouts as much as they did back in the 40's and 50's. I have the bias ply WWW's and I wonder if they are made with better quality and are stronger than before. I've been hitting the freeway sometimes at 70 mph and I cringe to think about a front tire blowout and if it will be controllable or will I flip over? Also, my tires tend to catch the grooves on the freeway and pull the car, which gives a scary feeling. I try to stay away from the grooves as much as possible. If they are too common, I'll get on the surface streets or the older highways. The new radial that David says look almost like the original bias ply sound attractive. The only thing is that I paid a lot of money for these tires and I'd like to get some use out of them.
  21. The thing Lou is that these aren't rubber, they are urethane plastic. This guy is high because I guess he feels he's the only one that makes them so he can play "God" with his prices at our mersy. I'm sure it didn't cost him nearly that much to make them so he's just out to gouge and make a high profit.
  22. Hey...does anyone know where else I can get door sill mats for my '47 P15 coupe besides the from the guy on Ebay? He wants a whopping $289 for the pair and won't sell them any lower. I told him that his price was way too high for the average Joe. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Door-Sill-Mats-1942-1946-1947-1948-Plymouth-42-46-47-48_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34204QQihZ013QQitemZ230186274468QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW After all is said and done, with s/h, it will be just over $300! The thing that gets me is that these don't have the prongs on the bottom like the originals did. Instead, they have to be installed with an adhesive to the floor, which means that holes that the prongs go through have to be filled in and when the mats are on, they there forever and can't be taken off without having to destroy them. I also mentioned this to him and he wouldn't reply to it. Is this guy are only option?
  23. Bob...the commercials I downloaded from the internet are on this site (the one that jtw mentioned above). http://www.oldtimeradiofans.com/old_radio_commercials/ There also some old radio shows to download as well. http://www.oldtimeradiofans.com/ After I downloaded them, I then opened up my CD burning software and put on some songs I had and threw some commercials in between, like it may have been back then. It's easy to make and really sounds good in the car...especially at car shows. PM me if you have anymore questions about it.
  24. Well then how come when I tried to connect the guage to a 12v battery it started to smoke?. Back before I had sent the gauge and sending unit to you to have fixed, I remember telling you about that and you asked me how long I had let it smoke for, which wasn't long. You said, before I sent it to you, that I may have fried it. Can't remember if I had or not.
