  1. A belt driven fan will only spin as fast as the pump does. If you go to a smaller pump pulley that will overdrive the pump which will allow it to turn 10-15% faster at idle which in turn will turn the fans the same.
  2. Running straight water in a non pressurized system will let the water boil at the temps its meant to boil at, 212 degF. If you mix it 50/50 you should get alittle more boil point. A pressurized system lets the coolant go to a higher boiling point. For every pound pressure the cap is , it boosts the boiling point by 3 degF. So a 15 lb cap will let the system get to 212 + 45= 257 degf before it boils.
  3. retired in 2001 from Dana corp at 50 yrs old. have been working for Evans cooling since I retired. parttime 5 hrs a day 4 days aweek.
  4. Well Dave, I am putting a mild 360 with a 727 auto in my wagon. I don't judge anyone who does what they want to their car. Their car, their rules. I have been an all Mopar guy for 40 yrs now. I don't have much time for anyone who can't just appreciate a car and have to call others names .
  5. I changed mine cause I wanted rack steering and a better sway bar and better braking.I am also putting in a IRS with inboard discs , so this thing will handle .
  6. I put the Fatman stub on my 50 Ply wagon. It looks great and will ride an bunch better than the old stock setup.
  7. When going to disc brakes , it is highly recommended to have a bigger bore on the master cylinder, usually 1". The discs need more flow and should use a dual reservoir with a residual valve. Also should have a proportioning valve if it is not plumbed into the master. This goes for manual or power brakes.
  8. I have found this site to be very informative for stock older Mopars. I am into the street rod stuff , customizing and using v-8 power. The whole thing about cars is that whatever you like, it is what you like and no one can or should be critical of what you do with a car. I find that here all are welcome and treated fairly and have their questions answered. I know I have had questions on my project and have had guys here give me the answers.
  9. Have a buddy with a 50 Plymouth cp and his radiator was 3 rows of 1/2" tube which is much better than the newer styles of 3/8" tube. if you have an older style , would be wise to look inside and see how big the tube widths are. If they are the 1/2"tubes, I would do what I have to to save it.
  10. I have used lubricants for speedos as well.........still had the needle bounce. So I took the cable out and applied a good grease to the whole cable. Having it coated well seemed to stop the bouncing. You could actually take a grease gun with a needle type fitting, the one you would use to just push the ball in on a zerk fitting. Then just shoot grease into the speedo cable liner.
  11. have a 9 hp snow blower...6 speeds forward, 2 reverse & headlight. been moving feet of global warming for a few days........let it snow........also just filled the shop tank with oil. toasty warm to work in
  12. I've been snow blowin 24 inches of climate change for the past 3 hrs. Now we are supposed to get another 6-12 on Tues into Wed...........where the hell is spring? Oh well at least my shop is heated and I just filled the tank.
  13. I always told my kids when they were growing up that there are no dumb questions. You ask questions to find answers, they are not dumb questions. Mayabe some people feel better about themselves by thinking they "know" more than others, I also bet they are very lonely people too. I come here because I have asked many questions, and I always got the correct answers. THAT"S WHY I ASK !!! cause I don't know. All the guys here are top notch in my book and I thank all of them for helping me when I needed it.
  14. what you can do is ....take an old plastic coke bottle, hang it in the motor compartment........fill the rad and drive it, when the coolant goes into the bottle, empty it into another jug. Keep doing this until no more coolant goes into the coke bottle. Then you know that all the expansion is taking place within the radiator and pissing it out.
  15. I would change the pump. With play like that, even filled with grease it will and could go anytime. It should not have any play in it at all. Putting grease into it to help is just a bandaid.
  16. Fine threads are meant for places that have vibration. A fine thread nut is less likely to come loose with proper torque than a coarse thread. A good example is motorcycles, they are all fine thread nut and bolt connections. For a motor mount I would use a fine thread and even some Loctite or a locking nut.
  17. SEMA is more the bling stuff....big rims, stereos, ...........PRI is nothing but speed equipment. They had a company there that made go karts that went 180 mph.........my *** 2 inches off the tarmac at 180.......NO WAY...lol
  18. I went to the PRI show in Fla with the company I work for. You want to talk about speed, there were over 1000 companies that had anything racing related. Although there wasn't anything related to older hot rods, there were lots of stuff to look at and people to talk to about cars in general. Was alot of fun even though I was working our booth. Talked to Bryan Fuller from Two Guys Garage outside our hotel on Sunday morning. Very nice guy and down to earth.
  19. I just put on a whole Fatman clip on my 50 wagon. Had a few problems that had to be corrected, so I called Fatman..............call them and talk to Tim Tullo............he knows whats going on and he will help you with anything you need.
  20. I just go out to the shop, hit the heater switch and go in and make a cup of coffee. By the time the coffees done, the garage is 65 deg. .......sorry. I put heat in my garage 35 years ago when I bulit it...........
  21. No one said anything about the Teflon sealant in the tube. I have used that on NPT threads and other places on a vehicle, even used in the home on plumbing . It works well and seals.
  22. I hate to say this but it looks like the area covered was not taken down to bare metal. If it wasn't don't expect that patch to adhere for too long. Fiberglass repair needs to have a clean metal to attach to.
  23. I go to my local Tractor Supply Store(TSC). They have any and all grade 8 nuts ,bolts, washer....$3.99 a lb. You pick out what you need, take it to the register, they weigh it, pay and done. I got a bag of 30 5/16X18 4" long, with nuts and washers for $6.
  24. I have Evans coolant in my wifes daily driver and in mine. I also have it in my soon to be sold hot rod. Am also putting it in my new ride, my 50 Ply wagon when it's done. There is no water in it so no rust, no electrolysis, 375 degF boiling point, good to -40 below, and it's a lifetime coolant.
  25. Had Hagerty when I built my first car. They are good and would never say otherwise. The only thing I found was that price went up alittle bit every year. Just 25-35$ every year, so I called Grundy. They were $200 cheaper for the stated value as I had with Hagerty, and the prices never changed. So have been with Grundy ever since.
