  1. Yes the 265 rotating assembly will install into your block. The difference is a 1/4 inch of stroke between the 2 engines, with the 251 has a 4.5 stroke, while the 265 engine has a 4.75 inch stroke. On the industrial engines, there may be some other differences, in valve size, sodium filled valves etc.........Fred Some old timers say the 251 was a better engine with less issues, not sure why, unless it was related to the longer stroke, or maybe heavy duty usage..Fred
  2. Hey Joe, looks like you are getting near the problem by process of elimination. Heck Man, you gotta be stressed. Joe, is there anybody in your area, that really know these engines, or engines for that matter, that could help you diagnose this trouble? Sometimes a really experienced engine builder/mechanic, is worth there weaight in gold. I am not telling you what to do, but sometimes 2 heads are better than 1, and especially when 1 is an experienced engine Man.........Fred
  3. Here is the plan of attack, this works well for cleaning out your engine block cooling jackets. -pull water pump, t/stat and housing and remove water distribution tube, replace if necessary, there will be a lot of crud blocking the rear passage holes. -remove side frost plugs, remove petcock valve. -thoroughly flush out block, from all openings, rod out crud through frost plug holes. -once the engine is good and flushed out, re-install water pump. freeze plugs, water dist tube, t/stat and housing hoses etc. -make sure rad has good flow and is clean. Use rain water or distilled water fill system, add 1/2 cup of electrosol, start engine check for leaks before addding dish washer detergent. -if all is not leaking add electrosol, run engine, gofor a 25 mile ride, get the engine up to operating temp, 170-180 degrees. - drain engine coolong system, add freshy water no deteregent run again until warm, then drain again, repeat if necessary, then if all is well, fill cooling sytem with 50/50 water and anti-freeze. At this point all should be fairly clean, with good flow, and passages that aren't full of crud. I have done this very thing, worked well, lot of work, but can be done in a few days.........Fred
  4. Edwin you can change thge fuel pump, make sure you have a heat shield, insulate the fuel lines from pump to carb. Another relatively easy fix is to install an elecric fuel pump, just for start ups and for emergency back up, I think that would work well...........Fred
  5. I am using Dot 5 silicone, but I have a completely new brake system, lines hoses mc and wheel cyls. I am happy with this stuff, especially for long winter storage...........fred
  6. I cleaned out the Zapper, it was full of skeeters and some other insects, nothing big like moths, or especially dragon flies could ever get in this contraption. It may help a bit, but nothing is going to be too great to get ridd of the majority of the nasty little buggers....
  7. We have these contraptions at work, they do trpa and kill a lot of skeeters, but fogging or larvaciding works best. My Stinger zapper, is caked on with bugs this mroing, sketers and tiny moths, this deal has the octenol lure onit, you replace bi-weekly, skeeters still out there, maybe this thing helps a wee bit. I can see a return happening soon, not a 100% satisified customer......
  8. Bats we have, Barn Swallows we have. Clay soil, standing water, marsh and deltas we have, and rain and more rain = gazillions of Mosquitos, **** it sucks
  9. You see that Hula Girl, that was hand carved and home made by someone I know, was a gift to me........
  10. Thanx Aero, ther compass arrived yesterday, it is already installed, here is a pic of it in the car.......Thanx again
  11. Hey all , bought an installed a Stinger mosquiot zapper, as we have more sketters than the Texas and Lousianna bayous combined, and just in my yard. I even used and old t/stat housing froma Mopar flathead 6 for the base, then fashioned some ABS pipe and fittings attached tothis, working good and strong winds, did not do anything to it. The zapper is full of other bugs this am, not sure how many mosquitos got zapped, but moths and fireflys were in there, mayflies hopefully will be too big to get into this contraption. So fi anyone knows if these Zappers are any good for skeeter control please post.........Fred
  12. According to Fulton Application Guide I need a Model #700, for a 47 Chrysler, this is the same model as a 40 Plymouth, so most likely mine will work on my car, just a need a few parts, and a paint job, and she should be a go.......Fred
  13. Here are 3 pics of my Fulton Visor, I need a part for the 1 side, a round bracket piece that holds the swing out adjustment arm in place. I also do not have the center support bracket, not sure what do with that. Mine is identical to 40 Plymouth Bob and Coopers car. Pat, not sure I would need those items, if I do, then would certainly appreciate the gesture................Fred
  14. Thanx for the pics Bob, they explain a lot to me, especially regarding the center bar/bracket, which I do not have..........Fred
  15. Thanx Tim, I was having a look over there just before your post. I do need the center bar, might not be the easiest thing to find.
  16. Hi all, I was given a Fulton Visor from a friend a couple years ago, I am thinking about reparing it and painting it and then want to installl it onto my 47 Chrysler. This visor had 49-50 ford marked on it in felt pen, most likely what it last came off of, they are universal aren't they. This visor is in good shape, but is missing the round piece that attaches to the mount bracket one 1 side, the chrome extension arm is held tight to the bracket with this piece. There is no center bracket, as maybe with a 49 or 50 Ford has a 1 piece windshield. I need to know if this might fit on my 47 Chrysler, would anyone have any info or knowledge on these visors? I also need to locate at least 1 small round part for it. I will post detailed pics to follow..........Thanx all Fred
  17. I think you would have to look at and consider some variables in the engine itself. Full flow oil filter,or By-pass PCV set-up, or road draft tube style engine rebult and pronounced clean internally, or unrebuilt, and not so clean internally. engine operation temps city or highway operation conventinal versus synthetic oil Oil in a full flow set-up is recommended to be changed at 5000 miles, based on 1940s oil Oil in by-pass set-up, every 3000 miles in temps above 32 f, filter every 6 or 8 k, can't remember now. How often is engine and oil used allowed to sit between operation, is the car stored for long periods of time. My regime with an unrebuilt, but fairly clean engine, with a totally stock engine is 2 to 3 k, and an oil filter each time, even though it is a by-pass type. I would guess if the car was driven civily, and on a regualr basis, 5 k would probably still result in good oil. I have no empirical data to support this. I do venture to guess, that modern oil, the way we drive our old girls, is whole lot better than 1940 and 50s oil and everyday hard use. I think these flat head 6s were used a lot in Chicago and New York cabbies for many years, and with plenty of miles no doubt between oil changes.
  18. Larry you are a handy kinda a guy, they look good on your car..........
  19. Hi Rodney, when my heatriser was stuck in the cold postion on my flathead, I would see it run hotter and have some the same symptoms you have described. I met with oppostion with this theory on the forum as well as with Ol Mopar guys I know. So what is the concensus, willa heater riser stuck in the cold postion, that does not allow exhaust gas to exit as freely, witll this cause a Mopar Flathead to run hotter or not?........
  20. Tommy, glad to hear you had fun, my back window has a slight leak witha new weatherstrip too, it was installed by Speedy, but still slight leak in torrential downpours. Hey I dunno about you, but I can handle a small leak, but hope to fix all of it at some point, the point is we are driving our cars outside of sunshine........
  21. Great pics as usual Bob, you 2 are certainly having fun..........
  22. Edited and deleted, as I am not wasting anymore time and energy on "flogging a dead horse".........
  23. Michael common already, do you think we all fell off the 'tomatoe truck" this morning. Yes were here to talk old Mopars, as you have stated, whether your a Lawyer or not is your business. I did query you whether you are related to Attorney Michael T Warshaw, a 62 year old Jersey Shore Lawyer, you still have not answered my question. Michael I will say it, I do not believe you are a Lawyer, not sure you have even been to Law School, wrote the New York State Bar Exam, articled with a firm, or became a Junior Partner, then went on to become a senior partner, or as you say Own your Own Law Firm, doing what exactly, selling Ebay Motors items. You can stick with your story, but, I for one, "am not buying it". Michael come clean, you don't have to pretend to be someone your not..........
  24. Very Nice Rodney, glad your having a full and busy life with these old cars.....Fred
  25. Hey Guys, my pleasure to post these pics of my travels with the old girl. I hope you Guys post your travels too. You know the thing that still amazes me, is this. I am here in Manitoba Canada, you guys are far away, Tommy all the way in Florida, and heck this computer lets you see my car and my drives so easily, the world is really been made small with the computer. This would not have happened just over a decade ago.......Fred
