fordkustom Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 Hey folks I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jay I have been building cars for 13 or so years and just aquired my first mopar. It is a 48 canadian dodge business coupe. My last two cars were full customs and this time I think I will be going traditional style hot rod with the dodge. A few questions I could use some help with: Block p24 16149c= a 53/54 plymouth from what I have read and it measures just over 25 inches long will this block accept the same daul carb intake as the 23 inch blocks? what is the difference between the 23 inch long 218 and the 25 inch long? any help would be greatly appreciated. 1 Quote
deathbound Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 Welcome from So Cal. Any pics of the Dodge? Dual carb intakes are not interchangeable between the 23" & 25" blocks. They come up once in a while on ebay, here's an original Mopar set-up w/exhaust: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Factory-Mopar-dual-carb-intake-Flathead-Six-/171466132070?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27ec2d8a66&vxp=mtr Quote

Don Coatney Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 As has been mentioned there are factory dual carburetor set-ups for the long block engines that were originally a big Dodge truck option. There are new aluminum triple carb intakes available also. Pictured below is a modified manifold setup for dual carburetors that I am running on my Desoto engine. 1 Quote
fordkustom Posted September 19, 2014 Author Report Posted September 19, 2014 thank you DON, that engine is beautiful. Source info on the intakes? Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 Welcome to the forum! I too have a 48 Dodge, a Falcon (had, anyway - a '63 HT that is my daughter's that we finished and took back to her last year), and a Hudson - a '37 Terraplane. Birds of a feather, eh? Anyway, you'll get lots of useful information and advise here, both for original and custom applications. Quote

fordkustom Posted September 19, 2014 Author Report Posted September 19, 2014 Dan Hiebert lol yes birds of a feather other than my hudson was a 51 2dr pacemaker slant back(extra foot and a half of roof line looked like a factory chop) 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 In my opinion a Hudson related name is better than the F word Post photos of your Hudson. 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 Real Hudson's have a flathead. 2 Quote
deathbound Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Real Hudson's have a flathead. If the OP's Hudson is "fake", I'd take a "fake" or "real" 2 door Hudson in a heartbeat. 1 Quote
51cambridge Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Is that a cadillac engine? Quote
fordkustom Posted September 21, 2014 Author Report Posted September 21, 2014 yep its a caddy 500 and though I do appreciate a nice flat head, this was built for mean speed to take the family on road trips and I know I could have out run any flatty I had been clocked at 145 mph 1 Quote

Don Coatney Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Is that uncovered hole in the drivers side valve cover a secret speed option? 1 Quote
fordkustom Posted September 21, 2014 Author Report Posted September 21, 2014 positive crank case ventilation with the wife and kid in the car I rarely took it over 100 she got nervous and hs a "brake pedal" wear spot on the passenger side like you would find in a student training car. 1 Quote
