tonygray Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Anybody installed these on a P-15 who can provide some advice? I have new seals from Steel Rubber and am getting ready to give it a try. Quote
Lou Earle Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I put them in warm water or lay them outside on a hot day to get them pliable then I put dish washing liquid on the part to be inserted in the groove and work them in with flat bladed screwdriver- works for me Quote
John Mulders Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I ripped both when trying to put them on the window. Still don't see how they can be installed without the stress on the piece that has to go over the top pivot point. Mine seem more to be a silicone type, haven't found a glue that would stick. If so, how.? And how did you keep from tearing them as you mounted the vent window frame? Quote
John Mulders Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Norm, the glue is for the ripped piece so it is not a loose flap John Quote
40phil41 Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 It's hard to describe what I did, but I used a pair of locking pliars to insert the rubber (the kind that are used for locking to nuts - not vise grips) and they went in without too much trouble and I didn't do any damage. The rubber is Andy B's; don't really fit the door opening very well. Phil Quote
dirty dan Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I'll be taking on this task shortly. Who is Andy B? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 He's known around here as "Andy Bomb Brain". Thats not a good thing. Quote
greg g Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 also try Roberts Motor parts. I think he gets his rubber from the same source as Burnedbomb but at least they are reasonable to deal with. I don;t remember a problem with mine (I got mine from Mitchells back when) but I just warmed them up and used windex as the lube, we did replace the rivets, with soft ones from the Pop rivet kit. De Soto Frank Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Buy the best vent-seals you can find (Steele?)... Previous owner of my De Soto didn't, the new seals don't fit, and caused enough pressure points on the vent frame to cause the vent glass to crack on both sides of the car. Also, the bottom of the rubber is too long, interfering with the division-bar of the side-glass. That's my 2-cents-worth about vent rubber. De Soto Frank Quote
