Savoy Boy Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Hi, My name is Ian and my wife Val and I own a 55 Plymouth Savoy. It had just gone through a 3 year rebuild when we purchased it a few months back. The only thing not done was the engine and that has just about died. We have found another 230 flathead locally that was rebuilt recently and this will be going in over the next few weeks. The car is all original and we only intend to to minor work to it. It will be lowered a couple of inches and I am presently making a dual carb manifold for it which will use two original Carter single barrel carbs. The original exhaust manifold will also be split to make a dual exhaust. We also own other 'special interest' vehicles but this is the only Mopar in the family apart from Val's daily driver PT Cruiser. Looking forward to spending some time on here. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Ian, Welcome to the FORUM. That is a good looking Savoy. What other 'special interest' vehicles do you own? Dennis:cool: Quote
martybose Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Welcome aboard! You'll find that we do have an interesting bunch of folks here, including a surprising number of international members. From what I've gathered here in the past, the right hand drive makes most of the commercially available headers for the 230 unusable due to steering column interference. But if you are going to the trouble of making up a dual carb intake and splitting the exhaust, you might want to see about getting a reground camshaft to perk it up a little farther. Looks like a nice car; keep up the good work! Marty Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Welcome to the forum Ian. Very nice looking Plymouth. Keep us posted of your progress. There are lots of us here running dual carburetors and exhaust. I did see a problem with the steering wheel on your Plymouth but I fixed it for you:D Quote
John Mulders Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 you would think the pics would be upside down , not flipped sideways? Great looking car ! John Quote
Normspeed Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Welcome. 55 Plymouth 4 doors bring back great memories for me. I purchased one for $50 back in the 60's and drove it from Florida to California, my first solo cross country jaunt. Quote
david lazarus Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Hi Savoy Boy What part of the country are you in ?? Quote
Andydodge Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Don.......take ya meds..........lol.......that steering problem sholud be o/k with the later, say 49 onwards as the colum is a different angle, but for cars up to 48 the steering box lives between the oil & fuel pumps.......right where the front header/split manifold dumps.......as least for my 1941 Plymouth........andyd Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 good fix Don...first thing I noticed myself..sorta like them there left handed golfers..they always stand on the wrong side of the golf ball...geez...almost as ridiculus as a ball washer on the ladies T-box.... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Welcome Savoy.......nice looking car. The interior looks good also. Join right in and have fun. What other cars do you own? Quote
Savoy Boy Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Posted July 14, 2008 Ian, Welcome to the FORUM. That is a good looking Savoy. What other 'special interest' vehicles do you own?Dennis:cool: Thanks for all the welcomes. makes a person feel good To answer some of the questions. Val and I also own a 56 Ford F100 with a 289 Ford V8 and a Modified T roadster with a 5 carb 270 GMC six. I know this is a Mopar forum but I must admit that I like all sorts. We wanted a four door sedan that we could use for events and cruises so the grandkids and others could attend with us. This one was a New Zealand new car and as such came with the steering wheel on the 'wrong side' The interior had been done when we got the car. New door panels were made and as the rest of the upholstery was in good condition custom seat covers were made. We fitted a new stereo with a DVD. NOS antenna surround, NOS gas cap trim and repo Mopar exhaust deflector and wheel trim rings. Will probably fit a set of fender skirts and I am trying to purchase a Thermador window mounted car cooler. (Swamp Cooler) I plan to run the original Carter single barrel carbs on the dual manifold I am making as I have a good spare I can use. Does anyone know on the jetting for these and will standard jetting be suitable. I come from Cambridge. Quote
