I already have the cable controlled heat valve but it still lets a little warm water circulate into the heater core. For summer, I wanted a manual shutoff. I visited a local shop called the Early Ford Store in San Dimas and picked up a nice new valve for about $15. It's for Fords but a direct bolt-in for the flathead six. Now I can really turn off the heat when it's 100 degrees outside to start with.

That looks exactly like the ones I picked up for my flatheads ('38, '48, and '53)as they were all on their last legs. Price sounds the same as well. I got mine at the local jobber's (ma and pa) store.

I have that same one on the 1940 ply. When I removed the original it broke up in my hand, not knowing anything about them I went to NAPA and showed the guy the valve, I was kind of scared and ranting. He went into the back room and came out with one. Told me that the treaded part was no big deal and that this would screw right in place. It did:D one of the good things that having a good parts store can do.

I was riding with my daughter and I pull over and poped the hood side, it was 70 degress and hot inside, a guy pulled up and broke out his cell phone" I can get you some help " he said.

I said "Why" I just need to turn off the heat. I turned the valve a couple of times and was done. He said these old cars sure are easy to fix. I'm thinking It was never broke. What can you do.

I have the same valve on my Plymouth. But I got it from my local "good" auto supply store. Have them look in their paper catalog of truck heater parts and accessories. I think I paid a bit less but it was a few years ago and my memory is probably off.
