I had supper last night with Hotlanta Richie and his wife Honey. He told me that Billy is alive and well. Billy was going to try and meet with us last night but his work prevented it. Not sure if Billie is part of the fallout of the new forum but Richie is. Richie told me he just does not like the format as well as the old forum. I also spoke with Hotlanta Don Gaines earlier this week. He also has not joined the new forum but he is busy at work too.

Sorry to hear the format has Richie befuddled, if you see him again, tell him he is missed and that I for one would encourage him to give it another try.

Every time I do a reply before I hit the Post Quick Reply button I go to edit, copy. That way if I have to relog in or anything else I can hit quick reply button and then go to edit an hit paste and the orginal message that I typed will reappear in the quick reply box. I lost a lot of replys on both the new and old forums before I remembered that I could copy the message and paste anyplace later.

I haven't made quite as many posts as Norm but I've never lost a post that I was typing out. There may be some small disadvantages but they are nothing compared to the advantages for me. I can read at work and at home and wherever else for that matter and it keeps track for me of what I read. Plus you just hit the little error next to the subject line and it takes you right to wear you left off reading that topic. That should elliminate a lot of clicks right there. BTW I leave my self signed in on both work and home pc. Not sure why anyone wouldn't do that?

No-click: Set up auto login with the "Remember Me" option.

1-click: Quick Links drop down in the Navigation Bar.

2-click: Select "Today's Posts"

Displays list of threads with current posts you have not read.

3-click: Click on the thread.

If you have Display Modes set to "Threaded Mode" it will show you which message you have not read. (It has a yellow message icon compared to the blue "read" icon.

When you are done for the day, you can set all the unread message you don't want to read to "read" by clicking on the Quick Links and "Mark All Forums Read". Then the next time you come back yo will only see new stuff. It is actually faster (and less clicks) then the old board.

To reply I just click "post reply" and type the message. Posting photos is much easier here, and I use the linear display mode (upper right corner, display modes) for a format that shows newest stuff at top, with unread in bold and unread have a different icon too.

It's a shame to lose anyone due to a format change, but to each his own.

Norm, I use the keep me logged in option at home and work. Is it for security concerns that you don't just use that? It's so much easier.

I use the "New Posts" button and it really feels like the old forum alot.

I have never lost a post due to the forum, they have all been my own fault.

I don't mind change on the computer, after all, if I had resisted change and never upgraded from the Comodore 64, I wouldn't have discovered the internet, and I wouldn't have discovered this forum.

I have gone through several upgraded computers, browsers, internet connections and speeds, printers, tapes, 5 1/2 floppys, 3 1/2 floppys, CD's, monitors etc etc

I don't really look forward to the changes but I have never really regretted keeping up with this technology. Keeps the Alzheimers at bay

That's the point. Computer systems are like the weather, they change every day. You can buy a new computer with updated software in the morning and before you get home with it, it's already out of date. I would rather spend my time doing something else more productive than learning new computer systems every minute, just to stay up with the internet changes.

Lately I have come to think of the computer like the old CB radio's of the 70's and early 80's. I started out with the CB just in the car so I could go faster than the 55 MPH speed limit back then. Then that expanded into CB's for my wife's car, then into both my kids cars, plus a base station with a large booster on it. I could actually talk to people in Florida on a good night from here in Wisconsin when I kicked in the booster. Finally, in the late 80's I took the radio out of the car, disconnected the base station, tore down the base antenna and sold or gave it all away.

I think I'm getting the same attitude with the computers now. However, the internet is probably here to stay and I do need it for work. So.........I'm sort of stuck there for now. Actually, the only thing I do on the computer now is whatever work needs to be done. On a personal basis all I do lately is check my email and visit this site. Don't go surfing the net anymore or even check on ebay. About the only time I go on ebay now is to look at a few (not all) of the post someone makes here. Once in awhile I might list a part for sale on ebay, but even that is really getting to be rare.

As a point to one of my other post in this thread. I was logged in when I typed the above. I hit the submit button and it said I wasn't logged in, yet it showed my private messages above. I then logged in, came back here and it showed I was not logged in. I then had to log in again, then that took me to a blank screen. I then went back to the index page of the forum and it showed I wasn't logged in. Had to log in a third time, then find this thread and paste the above message into the box. So, like I said before in the other post. This can be really annoying!!!!!!!!

Norm, as I said, I am also resistant to change, but do go along reluctantly. As to changing computers often, I am on I think # 8 or 9 in 11 years. The first few were real cheapies that I only kept long enough to realize how outdated they were for myself. I was told, but did I listen?...NO!

This one is about 2 years old and only has Windows 2000 Professional on it I will probably do the upgrade to XP soon...about the time Vista comes out

If you are still on 98, I really liked it because I was comfortable with it and didn't want to change, but you'll find 2000 pretty well the same as far as using it goes, it's just a bit better than 98.

My concern about 98 was that Microsoft is going to stop supporting it soon and then I WILL run into trouble. I have no problem with 2000

I'm generally not on the leading edge of this stuff, but waaay back in the cheap seats.

I think that being a bit resistant to change is why I like the Old Mopars. No computers, no bells, no whistles and just a simpler machine.

There is something to be said for simple;)
