Rodney Bullock Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 I am looking for a horn for my 1940 Plymouth, I have the bracket I just need the horn. Anybody got one? I need it....bad. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 These horns are shorter with a a fatter trumpet than the P15.. Quote
40phil41 Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Rodney, Does your '40 have dual trumpet horns like my '40 Dodge (see photo)? Phil Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Fellas, I wish I knew what they looked like, when I got my car there where no horns or bracket. One day down leon's junk yard I saw a 1940 p-9 and got the bracket out of it. the bracket is shaped like a enlonged "u" with four hole base(large) at the fire wall and four hole(small) base that bolts to the horn. I don't know if it's two horns or one. I do know that once install it takes up alot of room under hood. Quote
claybill Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 hi rodney...i have 4-5 horns on the shelf. i think one set is a 40..i will look. bolts under the hood on firewall.how is yur 40 coupe? luv'em. i have 2 '41 coupes well, one is a convertible. bill in illinois. Quote

Don Coatney Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Rodney; I have my original P-15 horns as pictured. I will bring them to Sulley. Quote
1940plymouth Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Rodney, If I did this right, you should see the trumpet horns on my P-10 Plymouth Business coupe Hope this helps, Bob Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 2, 2008 Author Report Posted June 2, 2008 Rodney,Does your '40 have dual trumpet horns like my '40 Dodge (see photo)? Phil yes they look right Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 2, 2008 Author Report Posted June 2, 2008 Rodney;I have my original P-15 horns as pictured. I will bring them to Sulley. Don there is not much room under my hood so I need the exact horn that goes there I will post a pic of the bracket if your horn can be attached to it I will use it. Quote
Skrambler Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Rodney, Here are a set of correct, original P-10 horns. Sorry about the size of the photos. I think it is all the larger allowed. Hope that you can see the mount. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 3, 2008 Author Report Posted June 3, 2008 This is the horn bracket to my horn, if your horn has the small 4 hole pattern that this bracket has it will fit, please let's make a deal. If I don't have this horn in place I don't think I want to drive my plymouth as a horn is needed in todays traffic. Please look in your attic's, baby cribes along your property lines. I need this horn something bad. One othr question does this horn need a horn relay? You guy's with p-9,p-10, p-11 do you have a horn relay? where is it located? Quote
40phil41 Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Rodney, This is exactly the same as the bracket on my '40. The relay mounts to this bracket as well as the pair of horns. I'll try to get you a photo of the installed setup tomorrow. Phil Quote
Jim Yergin Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Rodney, The wiring diagram in my 1941 factory manual shows a relay only with the dual horns and a direct connection for the single horn. Jim Yergin Quote
40phil41 Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Rodney, Here are a couple of pics of the horn mounting on my '40 Dodge. I don't know if your Plymouth is the same or not. Note that the large end of the bracket you posted attaches to the firewall, the horns bolt to the small end and the relay hangs underneath using the two small holes in the horizontal part in your photo. Hope this helps. Phil Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Rodney; I believe my horns will work for you. I may have a relay but I will have to look for it. Quote
DEADMAN RUNNING Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 i just purchased a 41 plymouth but not sure just yet if the horns are there or not....will check and get back to you! will they work for ur 40? Quote
claybill Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 rodney..your bracket attaches to the firewall...then there is another bracket to hold both horns...also a U shape holes offset to attach horns. i sent pics but probably didnt go thru..major computer flub over the weekend. and..ym set up looked perfect for you but stamped on the back was 12v !!! i remember they were installed on my 40 coupe with a sbc in it...sorry. i dont know but the single horn might be the big bull horn looking thing. bill Quote
Skrambler Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Rodney, The horns I sent a photo of are exactly what you are looking for. I picked them up two years ago at Hershey (They were turned upside down so they did not fill with water:) ). Even the original paint on them is good, also have the original relay. Bolt and go on these horns, that is why I bought them. Paid $85.00, down from the $100.00 asking price for the whole assembly. Might have been a bit high, but they are what they are, and they are real clean and not the easiest to find. Only thing missing is the bolts to attach to the firewall. If you are still interested, drop me a line. Quote
NJ Sekela Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 I have a Dodge D14, and the mechanic was trying the horns with a 12v tester...worked once, now dead...anywhere I can get replacements? Quote
