The brake light in your car only works if the brake system hydraulic pressure is working. Does your brake peddle go all the way to the floor? If so the brake light will not work. And the brake light is the one in the middle of the trunk lid unless your car has been modified.

The brake light won't work if it is blown either....Alaska when I first started my car the battery was fine but I had no power going inside the car, turns out the previous owner had the wires hooked up wrong on the starter. I discovered this by tracking the voltage with my meter. After reading about the history of the car in your other post I wouldn't think that would be your problem but as others have suggested, you need at least a test light.

It would not suprise me if that battery was not charged when you got it as a matter of fact I would be suprised if there was acid in it. the last battery I got came as a do it yourself kinda thing, I got an empty battery and a bag of acid to fill it. I guess it would increase the shelf life of a battery that is less than popular.

Start with a new parts store with a good parts guy that knows the difference between a 6 and 12 volt batterys, and load tests it before you take it home!

One more pedal. The headlight dimmer switch.

Ya got me there, Don. I almost never use mine so I forgot about it. If I am out after dark, I just keep them on low. Maybe in a few years I will need the brights, but for now I am fine.

I bought a battery tester tonight and it said the battery is good, I dont know if that is the same as a multimeter test, I guess I have to get the multimeter to see if I have a problem somewhere along the line....

I went to Walmart to get the battery tester but I suppose i'll have to run to NAPA to find a multimeter...

I just need to gather some patience and realize its not an overnight project... I am still having a blast just looking at it in my garage....

I'm wondering if my battery cables are toast... they don't look too pretty, but worked 6 or 7 years ago on the 8v battery....

Even though they may need replacement soon they should still do the job in the short term. They probably do need a cleaning.

hmmm.... then I must have a short somewhere... its always frustrating to think about it all at work, I should have called in sick so I could work on my car all day.... I suppose I still have the weekend to play
