Dodgeb4ya Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 Maybe carefully heat the area up to soften hardened grease? The use a high pressure gun. Quote
greg g Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 Take some of the weight up, Jack up lower arm a bit and then as above add a bit of heat. electric heat gun should work, be carefull if you use a torch. the difference between metling the plug and starting a fire is pretty narrow. Quote
greg g Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 Well you can always wrench out the zerks and soak em in some solvent, then the heat will let the old crap run out the hole. Any plans to do a yard trip any time soon?? Between teh mud and the leaves. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 No problem for me as I just took my old Dodge down to Walmart with my manufacture handbook in tow and let them grease the whole thing. Could not beat the price and they checked every zerk fitting. They even topped of the transmission and the rear end. I don't think the manager liked doing my car as it differently has more lubrication points than any new car would ever have. So they spent probably an hour changing the oil and doing the lube job. Cost all of around $20 and was just fun to watch those young kids enjoying themselves working on a real car. Jon Quote
grey beard Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 This is an every-day problem in the trucking and equipment industry. Typically we first replace the zerk with a new part, and if this still fails to solve the problem, just heat up the joint with a torch while holding pressure on the joint with your grease gun. Works every time. This problem typically only shows up when lubrication has been neglected. Once you have all your zerks woring properly, they'll stay that way as long as you continue with routine and regular maintence. JMHO Quote
