68fastwilliams Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Hello, this is my first post here. I have been lurking for the last few days what a great site. To my point: My Dad has a '48 P-15 convertible that is nicely restored. It has been gone through all except the engine bay. He has tasked me with its' restoration. Seeing as this is my first P-15 I could use some advice. Here are some pics of his car. Stable mates I was able to find the chart on engine finishes on this site. It was very helpfull. Can you recomend paints (por 15, Krylon...) for the block, manifolds and semigloss black. The goal is to make the car as close to stock as possible. Here are some pics of my work. I know, I know it's a Ford. Before: After: Quote
Allan Faust Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Do you have any pictures of the engine bay??? Allan Quote
billwillard Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I don't think you need any advice. Great job you have done on your mus. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Welcome to the forum. Great looking cars and excellent craftsmanship. What type of floor coating did you use in your shop? I'm looking for ideas for my garage. Thanks! Harold Quote
68fastwilliams Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 Alan, I don't have any pictures yet. I will get some and post them. Bill, Thanks for the compliment! Quote
68fastwilliams Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 Harold, Thanks for the kind words. The shop belongs to my father, I believe the coating is a heavy duty epoxy. It looks nice but it is just for show as it has no grit in it. When it's wet it is very slippery. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 What a good looking convert. Of course, I like the wire wheels....a man after my own heart. Engine....basically silver with black accessories and black fender wells. Is that body color supposed to be Sumac Red (an original color available only on converts & wagons)? Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I've always wanted a P15 convertible. I'd gladly swap you for my '92 LeBaron. Quote

68fastwilliams Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 Nice vert yourself! The color is indeed sumac, it does not look quite right in the pics. Thanks for the engine shot. What are the best paints to use for the correct colors and finishes? Thanks You guys can keep your vehicles, but if you have a '56 Plymouth 2 door, I'll take it. This needs a home, Quote

Young Ed Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Here you go. Silver high heat spray can paint. Cant say it lasted that well though. The valve for the heater leaked and wrecked the paint on the head. Quote
68fastwilliams Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 Actually, she's a 472:D ! Quote
68fastwilliams Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 Are both the intake and exhaust manifolds suppsed to be silver? Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Hey, that engine would look good in my 48 Plymouth. Dennis Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Yes.....manifolds silver also. I've had good luck with this paint. I used to use the spray cans of high heat aluminum (don't recall what brand), but they did not hold up as long as this stuff. I applied it with a brush. About $15 for this size can. Others on here have their favorites as well. Quote
